We are getting back to the good old days, like 1740's when we paid the Colonial Governer a rent for the land we took from the wilderness or indians and cleared then had to defend. Contrary to popular belief most land was purchased from greedy chiefs. Being part ugly Chickasaw I can say that without being concerned with hurting anyones feelings. Then we had the Church of England demanding tribute of ten percent of any production or income. That was only a twelve or fifteen percent tax. Now, if you figure the taxes and taxes on taxes we pay close to half what we make.

We fought a great war over less, we never had it easy and because people let these things happen, we never will. We are becomming afraid of the government instead of the government being afraid of us, we will have tyranny. Thats called socialism by any other name. There is always those who want to tend your business, not insure your freedom but limit it to their mold. Conformity, conformity, be like me 'cause I got all these clowns gonna make a new law and jail you if you don't. All them clowns that you help elect. So did I. You gotta be a Plutocrat straight ticket for change. Paid Pol. Ad. by heathens for Kile Anderson, Grand- potentator , Plutocrat party and crawfish boil.

One of my sidelight deals is to score standardized school tests from all over the country. The last project was a writing section of a test for 12th graders in the Los Angeles Unified School System. Even tho I'm kinda used to it, I was still shocked by the incompentency displayed by these kids that ranged from 17 to 22 years. It was particularly dismaying to think that a mere 40-50 years ago, L.A. was a virtual paradise in terms of quality of life and educational prowess. But, since Adam & Eve were cast out, the place has gone to seed. Folks, it is really pitiful. This is the result of a society that has lost it's purpose, it's moral fiber, it's basic sense of seeking the higher ground. All in an area where some of the highest taxes and social welfare programs have proliferated thanx to an almost socialistic mindset.

Forty years ago, the song asked, 'Where have all the flowers gone?' Can that now be transposed to, 'Where are our yesterdays?'

Oh, well, nowadays, to get to Eden, it's 28 miles southeast of San Angelo and 22 miles north of Menard. But, ya still can't afford the property taxes.

Russia offers mothers a free home if they promise to bear three babies
(Filed: 27/12/2002)
Drastic steps are being taken to halt the falling birth rate in Russia. Julius Strauss reports from Zolotukha
“The deal Natasha was offered was simple: prove she was fertile, that her husband was not an alcoholic and agree to having three children in five years. In exchange the local council would buy her a house of her own. Providing she fulfilled her child-bearing obligations there would be no repayments to make, and, after five years, nothing owing.”

Hit the link at the top if you want to read the full article. It seems that not only the Pope is getting serious about encouraging the birth of more babies. Maybe we should share our experience in rewarding the production of children.

Ghost, the problems in public education are many and depressing. So much has gone into making children feel good about themselves that educators have forgoten that they are there to teach children facts and skills, not self-esteem. High school seniors can't find entire continents on a map or even the country in which they live. They can't read or write or do basic math. I'm sure many of you have had the unfortunate experience of having to stand at the counter of a convenience store while the teenage clerk tries to make change for a 5.

School administrators are more interested in prohibiting children from playing dodge ball at recess than they are about actually teaching them to read. Someone please tell me which harms you self-esteem more in the long run, getting hit by a rubber ball when you're 9 or being totally un-employable when you're 19?

I agree there is problems in education today but a closer look might point out that the problem may have stemmed from the home. The education of our children starts at home, not in public place by strangers but that concept kills the blame game that can be so much fun.

Place the blame on the Consolidating school systems, that is where it started along with the flower power, lobby of the teacher unions and the explosion of the Admin empires. The ratio of education has tilted in the area of overhead VS teaching. Heros in education have no necks, sports, you never hear of an academic hero. The football coach makes several times what the dean makes. The coach at Tex A&M just signd a contract for twelve Mil and he came from Ala where he was paid a little over half that, still too much.

Say what you will, two hours a day on a not so plush bus is child abuse. Bus kids to a gheto type school where no one knows them is open invitation to gangs and drugs. The two hours extra in travel for the most part is unsupervised. That is two hours a day away from home each day. Kids rebel because the family is trying to tell them what to do in the maybe three wake hours at home, when the rest of the time they are on their own. Its no wonder they become sullen and withdrawn from family. This is the "Great Society" Lyndon Brains Johnson spoke of.

We can throw money at education till the cows come to roost and you will still have pseudo educators begging for more. I say do away with consolidation, go back to the neighborhood schools have one principle one secretery and teachers. The athletic programs would be available on an academicly earned basis or elective if they had the credits.Eliminate busses except in those most remote areas. Ride herd on teachers, those qualified reward, those that feel they are owed a living just because they have a degree, give them directions to the unemployment office.

Teachers should be graded just as every other proffession, pay according to the number of students and how well the student do on a unbiased test after each school year. Some teachers have a hard job because the previous teacher didn't do theirs. This is my gripe and I'm stickin to it.

For all you L-bashers who sorta kinda think the press has a liberal bent or else hates them, here is a quote I read this afternoon which you might like. I had not seen it before.

A newspaper is a device for making the ignorant more ignorant and the crazy crazier.

Jim, Mencken lived from 1880-1956, I think if he were alive today he may say the same thing about cable news or am radio.
