Just to change things up totally I'd like to hear what everybody does about staying in shape while out on the road going from, say, South Tx up to Grand Forks to work a storm.
I know that I (being from an extremely food oriented family) have a slight problem with the ol' Dunlap disease and have noticed that a fair percentage of my compadres out there seem to be similarly afflicted.
Does anyone have any success with any strategies that they would like to share? |

Tom, I think you have that backwards. When I'm on the road, I usually lose 20 pounds the first month. I'm so busy, working 16 hour days and climbing around on roofs and hauling ladders and forgetting to eat lunch that the weight just falls off. I don't notice until I clip my tape measure onto my bealt and it nearly pulls my pants down.
My problem is staying in shape when I'm not working. Laying around on the couch all day, the highlight of my day is meeting my out of work adjuster buddies for lunch. I have to force myself to move around a little just to keep the blood flowing. |

I have the same problem with my tire. I have been on a reduced carb diet since last July; not nearly as strict as the Atkin’s though, and have dropped almost forty pounds. I know while on the road it is very hard to stick to it and I lose ground on every trip, but only about 5-6 lbs. I still have 15lbs to go to reach my goal. |

"Staying in shape", isn't that a journey?
The once or twice a year I might think about it, it is only to assess whether I'm still relatively rectangular, or sliding more to the dark side of oval or more square like. My cougar like body left me about 20 years ago.
Food is energy, food is comfort for me. I eat for the enjoyment of good food and the dining experience; as much as I do to get full.
I'm so damned tired after a long day in the field, and so hungry from missed meals; that I settle into a serious and enjoyable gorge at night.
The perfect strategy, of which I have not bothered to apply, and hence can claim no success at; is to consume 4 small meals a day with all the right food groups taken into consideration. That way, you never get too hungry or too full; during a long day.

Fitness on the road is going ot the mall to pick up the next pant size. One of the reasons for them oversize texas belt buckles is belly control. |

I stay in fair shape by push aways. Of course I am not prone to eating a big meal at night. Makes me sleep better. I eat a big breakfast and lunch. After I put on twenty pounds one time, I cut down to two meals a day and took it off. I eat a balanced diet and just about anything I want. I have oats every morning, and four slices of toast or biscuits, most of the time we have biscuits two eggs, ham, bacon or sausage. I pile that on a six foot five frame and try to stay around 210. I have a glass of wine at night and a sandwich, leftovers or soup. Sometime we go out for an evening meal and I pig out and I pay for it by not sleeping. Thats an automatic fat burner with me. |
