I am about to take a Adjuster 101 from US staffing,but since I am in Orlando FL this guys are closer to me.If anybody has any inputs on this facility,it will help me decide . Thank you. |

Marc, the IMS Cat School has been around for years that I know. Chris who is an instructor over there was at NACA this year and we got visit with him for a while. The other vendor I do not know other than their name so some others with experience may speak to that point. There is a thought that if you attend a vendor’s adjusting class it would give you an edge in getting to run claims for them/through them but I guess that could go both ways depending on the impression the student made. While it takes longer some community colleges teach a semester of adjusting. I know one in MN that does auto every fall and property every spring. That course is a gateway in to area carriers.
If you happen to be in Orlando this Sunday the 18th at the PLRB conference all the major software vendors are going teaching free classes on how to use their brand of estimating software. http://www.powerclaim.com/training/plrbtraining.php offers more info and how to sign up for our classes. You do not have to attend the PLRB conference to attend this free pre conference training option. There are no CE’s for these classes however. If you will just show up at the 1 PM or the 3 PM class we will work you in. Follow the link to the PLRB website and you will see the specific location of the conference.
We are leaving in about 10 hours so I will not be posting until after I arrive I am sure but there are others on the forum that will be at the conference that may be able to answer any question you may have. The PLRB site has links to all the free software classes on Sunday afternoon.

Thanks fort the info. I live in Orlando,but I was in Miami the last 4 days.Just came back.
I understand that most training places are adjusting firms and they will train you at their own style.
with the software they use, so I will have to do some more asking before making any move.

Check out my posting in this section under US Staffing. I think you will find it informative. They do not teach "any one style" of adjusting. It is very neutral and teaches what you need to know to work for any claims company. |

I heard good things about US staffing.The reason I was asking about IMS is because they are in FL and I will be more closer to me.Anyway I can always take both,the more you train the better.

I have some questions to the new people who have never been on a storm to think about. Please assume 04 and 05 will not happen again in fifty years. I use 50 years as this was the first time I saw it with my own eyes in 50 years of adjusting.
All the big 5 vendors and all the big five carriers except Allstate requires the adjusters to use x-mate. The same/vendors carriers also require a minimum of 2-4 years provable exp. Why would you spend the money to learn a program you may not be able to use. Why would you go to flood training when you need 4 years exp. to be eligable. Why would you spend several hundred for a license, YOU may never use. ?
I know its a dream of big bucks without a college degree, but the carriers have this requirement for a purpose. |

So new People have to die and choose to reborn as an adjuster.How would you get the two years experience if you don't work?.I know existing adjustes don't want any more competition , but if you don't try you will never know. |

I get so tried of the plainiff whine, "the existing adjusters don't want any competion". You couldn't 1 experienced adjuster who wouldn't help someone new, especially durung a storm, if asked politely. But contact me and say, I've closed hundreds of files this month, but could you tell me how to measure a roof, guess what; I WILL BLOW YOU OFF. Flybynights and one storm wonders are a fact of this decade, people in for a fast dollar and with no desire to learn the job. Ps, is it my imagination or are we having a case of TROLLS in here? |

If you read the whole post,I needed some inputs on a specific training center,I am not asking how hard is to get into this field or not.Some people like to throw some discouraging post,that is why I said what I said. And NO, I am not in for the fast $.I am willing to work for free if I have to, to learn the business,and also willing to take as much training as I can take ,to be the best I can be.
I hope I did not offend anybody,and NO I am not offended either. |

After having visited with the folks at US Staffing yesterday at their PLRB (Property Loss Research Bureau) booth I came away with the feeling they were straight shooters. |

Marc30-you are on the right track seeking to educate yourself by attending courses. It is also right to look into other's experience taking a course if you can't find information about a class in the forums.There are some great classes out there as well as many unhappy attendees at some of the overcrowded classes at others courses,etc
You can't sit back and "hope" someone will hire you with no background or training. That would be very unlikely due to the number of trainees actively pursuing their continuing education through some valuable vendor conferences and seminars, obtaining carrier certifications to work claims, and obtaining estimatic software certifications.
While experience will dictate those deployed first, you will be in a much better position to be considered by adjusting firms and carriers when the calls do come with the right training under your belt. |
