Well, this years flood seminars are starting up right about now.  I'm heading over to the one in Ontario CA and was wondering how many others from the CADO group are going to that one, and what others will be attended by some of us.  There were some feeble attempts to "reform" the flood program last year and I wonder if any of that will be discussed, or if they will bring up all the allegations out there that certain WYO companies are putting too much of the damages on the NFIP vs paying it under the wind policy.

Anyone going to be in Seattle on the 4th?

I will also be in Ontario for the Flood meet. I hope the boys/ladies that put this on have up dated the presentation . The last one I went to in Denver last year was good but you could tell the guys putting it on were tired from re-running this all year. I think what they need to add is a time for questions and answers for the adjusters.

I will be there, Jan 29th. Being from California where we have statutes for matching (reasonably uniform appearance) I also hope they have time for questions.

I have had managers say "even if you have to replace drywall up to the ceiling, if the ceiling isn't damaged you can't paint it" yet we all know the tape joint from the drywall repair will involve the ceiling. 

And you can't pay to match the cabinets (uppers) if they weren't damaged by the flood water.

Stuff that isn't in the policy - where does it come from...

Just and FYI, if you haven't noted it in the mailings and the postings.  The NFIP annual seminars have always been "required" but beginning this year they are adding teeth to the "required".  If you do not attend this year you will be placed on an inactive list.  They never really said what that status means but I suspect at some point, any vendor that gives you a file (as an inactive adjuster) will probably be fined or in some way reprimanded.  It could also end up that you have to reapply for your certifications (which is only done Jan-May each year).

So the real message is:  Get to a meeting if you are certified before the end of May.

It seems the old bare bones days of NFIP has been more relaxed in the last 7 years. It seems they now have  some slack on ceilings  and upper cabinet issues on case/adjuster by adjuster/case basis..

I think that is for Agents.  I Just got something in the mail from Center for Continuing Education and they mention a "new flood course - meets FEMA sales training requirement - $30".

It makes sense they are trying to educate the agents. I know a saw a lot of flooded houses with low policy limits for flood.  The limits had not been looked at for a decade. Homeowner didn't realize there was separate contents coverage that had to be purchased, etc. etc.

Yesterday there was a small CADO convention at the NFIP event in California. Nice to see Steve Ebner (Medulus), Steve Beaumont, Leland Coontz, and several hundred of the rest of you out there.

Well heck, wished we had been there. Janice and I would like to have seen all of you.

We just attended the Southaven Gala, sitting on very uncomfortable chairs, no tables, and the sound quit. Of course, we had the previous gala's memorized, so we did not miss anything. Such a waste of time. Strong emphasis was put on adjuster mistakes and that adjusters would be held accountable if coverage mistakes were made. NFIP expects full re-imburesment of overpaid claims if the mistakes were that of the adjuster. I am sure NFIP will make sure that the mistakes are that of the adjuster. So, if you don't understand NFIP policies, don't work flood claims, or the mistakes could be dire and costly.
