Trying for staff job since hurricane season was a bust.  I have an interview with Fireman's Fund next week.  Does anyone know what the hiring process is and what I can expert?  The position is for Auto/Liability Adjuster. I have over 30 years experience. Is there testing? I just want to be prepared.

I went to the interview and encounter the two old harpies. There was no test, questions only.  I was dressed in a suit looking very professional. The two old harpies were wearing spandex pants and old sweatshirts. One gal older then I had her hair spiked on her head with black eyeliner around her eyes.  I was not impressed.  Who in the hell interviews potential employees dressed like that? I have over 30 years experience and I just had a feeling I knew more than they did.  I inquired handling litigated claims, which I love and she me told "litigated claims are just a waste of time"- My day started off bad when my plane was delayed 3 hours and I got there late. I tried calling at least a dozen times and only reached the voice mail. So I didn't get job and frankly if offered, I would have refused. I know the do's and don't of interviewing and I never encountered anything like this.  Oh well, just keep on looking.

By the way, my name Carjacker represents a combination of 2 names of people I care deeply for.

You never revealed to us that you were aka "Carjacker";  you said they called you the "Mop-up Queen"!!  Remember me?  I borrowed your big pot when I hosted the BBQ's at the Staybridge in Schaumburg with the Omaha Steaks & Chops.  I'll never forget you coming to the door in your housecoat to give me that pot (cooking vessel, that is).   I talked to your former Staybridge downstairs neighbor (Carol A) the other day.  She's still in Schaumburg.  How's your silverware collection going?  hahaha 

I applied at ANPAC couple of times and I never get a call back. Springfield, MO is very political when it comes to jobs. I have no connections in this town.  The salary in Springfield just sucks and any job that pays; it's not what you know, but who you know. The average job in Springfield pays about $8.00-$9.00 per hour.  Additionally, being 62, I have the age factor against me. I just feel so stuck here and there is nothing I can do.  I gave up a great job in Southern California when my father became very ill and move to Springfield and he passed away last year.  Housing market sucks, so I am in no position to sell my house.  I have a temp job that is winding down and I know I will be leaving soon.  My husband is 70 and is health is not good, so I am the main breadwinner in the family. With no hurricanes the last 2 seasons, it's been rough. And I am doing everything not to apply for SS because I would be so limited on what I can make.  I just try and stay positive and hope something happens, but I am at my wits end and I know there are others going through the same. I have even applied for staff job out of state thinking I could just rent a room, but being 62 it's against me. I don't do outside work, just inside property examiner. So, I sit here with over 30 year’s experience just trying to get my foot in the door which I never had to do before. I was always rated the top in my performance, but you turn that magical age, and it’s like you are out of the market.   Okay. Enough of my pity pot story.

Like I said, I am not alone and things could be worse. I can meet my bills every month, but that's just about it and I know there are people that can't even do that.
