I'm about to begin training to become a 6-20 (Florida Resident) Insurance Adjuster, and need some help understanding the best ways to proceed.
I found a lot of info on www.myfloridacfo.com regarding fees, resources, etc., however I have some questions and would appreciate any advise from anyone with experience.

I see that the 2 main options to meet the state pre-licensing requirements are to either; 1.) Take and pass a 40 hour course online or in a classroom ($249-$425 depending on vendor), which exempts you from taking the state exam, or 2.) Purchase and study the "Florida Adjusters Study Guide (27th edition)". The second option seems to be more economical, as the book is $35 at www.faia.com, and the cost of the state exam at www.pearson-vue.com is $42, for a total cost under $80 (plus fingerprinting and state application fees). Has anyone on this forum chosen the second option, studying from the 'Adjusters Study Guide' and taken the state exam at Pearson-Vue? Was the book helpful in preparing for the exam, or should I purchase additional study materials, like flash cards or other "exam prep" literature I've found online? Has anyone taken an online or classroom course, which one(s), and was it a positive experience?

After passing the exam and satisfying the state application process, do I need to secure an "appointment" with another adjuster or can I work independently?
I don't understand exactly how the "appointment" process works? The references I found on the myflorida website describing appointments is unclear and confusing.
Can anyone offer any help or clarification on appointment requirements or procedures?

Thanks in advance and wish me luck.

Just take the online course from adjusterpro.com it's $300 and it's not hard. I have been told that if you go the other route, the test at Pearson view is extremely difficult. I tested for my health insurance license at Pearson view and it was very hard. So just do the 40 hour course. And yes, you do need to secure an appointment but you just go online and pay $60 and do the self.appoint.

Thanks Ryan, that's very helpful info. Do you have a website for the self appoint you mentioned, or is that through the state as well?
