    I've been considering taking some of the insurance certification courses (State Farm, AmFam, MetLife, Liberty Mutual, etc.)
    It seems like most of them--particularly State Farm is only offered in the south...like Dallas or Louisiana.

    Questions:
    1. Worth my time to do this? It seems like it is almost mandatory, correct?
    2. Does anyone know of any upcoming State Farm or AmFam certification classes offered in the midwest?
    3. Do only "big vendors" (like Worley and Pilot) offer them or do smaller adjusting companies offer them, too?

    Thanks so much for any help provided,

    Jim Behm

    Jim,

    The school ain't gonna come to you so you gotta go to it. There's a reason why the "large" companies put on these schools and seminars.

    It's because they can. They have the staff, the trainers, the experienced adjusters and supervisors that are willing and capable of teaching others.

    The "small" companies simply don't have the resources. In this instance, it's not that one company is better than another, they simply have the personnel that can.

    I am a new licensed adjuster just seeking help. I was told that I should get State Farm Certified to better my job opportunities but can't seem to find where to even sign up for the course. Is there a website that I am missing?

    You cannot get State Farm certified if you do not have 3 years of experience. But, IF, you completed AIC 35 Property Loss Adjusting and Eberl's is DESPERATE;
    which means they cannot find an experienced adjuster or enough of them to work a hurricane Katrina like storma as well as 4 hurricanes in FL, then you might have a chance of getting State Farm certified without the prior 3 years of experience.

    Before you go to the trouble and expense of State Farm certification or any certification, do something simple, just go out your front door and start walking, yeah, I know it is 102 degrees out there, pick a destination and walk all morning, for the purposes of this it helps to carry something, anything will do, some water and 2 pounds of beans, it would be best to meet the State Farm dress requirements, after about 4 hours of walking stop and eat lunch, then start walking again, after about 4 hours stop, eat supper. Now, after supper take the daily newspaper, open your laptop and start copying the news paper. Type until about 10 pm, take a shower and get some rest, sleep tight because tomorrow is new day and a repeat of today. At the end of the week, 7 days, start thinking about next week, because we are going to do this everyday for at least a month.

    If you physically or mentally unable to complete 60 days of just simple walking and typing 16 hours a day for 60 days you are not going to be able to climb, inspect and close 5 roof claims a day for 60 days.

    If you can't close 5 claims a day 7 days a week for 60 days certification is a moot point. You should go to Wal-Mart, Home Depot, McDonald's and fill out the computerized application. You will not be able to make enough money for Catastrophe adjusting to be worth the trouble. State Farm is looking for athletes, when you are working for State Farm you are competing for a chance at a job on the next storm. The adjusters who excel on the instant storm will be called on the next storm and if you can't keep up, well, truthfully, you are not going to receive the call.

    JudoJohn, I have hundreds of members who are State Farm certified with NO experience whatsoever.

    Now with that being said, I strongly feel that the SF cert should be available ONLY to those with 3+ years of experience
