In 2008 out of the deliberate actions of a handful of Property Claims Adjusters with growing concerns about the increasing risks of accessing pitched roofing systems within the modern housing industry, the Association for Certified Ropes Access Building Assessment Technicians (ACRABAT) was initiated.
    -
Their goal is to reduce the threat of personal injury from pitched roof system inspection by promoting uniformity standards for rope access worker skills and knowledge.
    -
As you may (or may not) know, ten years ago, much of the claims industry attempted to curtail the levels of incidents, injuries and fatalities with training based on the Sport Climbing equipment and techniques (some still do). ACRABAT was the first organization to establish rope access standards for Property Claims Adjusters based on criteria accepted by the worldwide Rope Access Community (basically Rope & Harness professionals interested in work access safety not rock climbing).
    -
ACRABAT Rope Access Certification provides instant recognition and credibility to the Property Adjusters who carry it. Today, ACRABAT certified rope access workers represent the highest standard for this very specialized form of technical achievement.

Please see for yourself by reading ACRABAT's newly released (4th edition) "Rope Access Standards for Pitched Roofing Systems" at http://www.acrabat.org/index.html

Some years back my lead told me I would not be paid for a 12/12 pitch if I did not have a photo from the ridge. Seems at that time safety was not a concern.
I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming in terror like his passengers.

Is that why eagle view (or any other satellite imaging program) is becoming very popular to use? Although it does cost money, it does save time not to climb the steep roofs but also some measurements are not exact. Do you know of any harness/rope classes around the United States? Preferably in the midwest?

Why don't you just pony up the $30 and place an ad here like the rest of us?

ACRABAT "Rope Access Standards for Pitched Roofing Systems" are not sold, they are free for all individual Property Adjusters to benifit from. They represent the very best and only structure by which individuals and property adjusting organizations (like Acc Adj) can develop risk managed pitched roof access programs from if they so choose. The concept is not new to other industries with work-at-height risk however, it is new to the Property Claims Industry yet catching on fast (e.g. the majority of Roofing System Forensic Engineers have ACRABAT based managed fall protection programs).

I know that it involves a great deal of information to digest but I would hope that on some level, both property adjusters and their employers would appreciate all the effort that has been made to curtail the rate of incidents, injuries and fatalities related to pitched roof structure access.
