Does it appear to be a lot of work from this storm? Before the storm my email and phone were busy. It seems to have gotten pretty quiet.

I was deployed by Allcat, sent to Beaumont for orientation for Nationwide last Thursday. Flew in for the orientation to find out last minute they canceled. There were alot of upset adjusters there. It seems Nationwide did not have an orientation set,t was Allcat doing it just to comitt adjusters. They apparently did not care that all the adjusters were out for flights, rooms, etc... I worked for this co for the last 3 years and it was great, but several management people left in the last few months and things have really gone down hill. I know they also sent 50+ for USAA for an orientation last Wed, just to tell the adjusters sit tight until they get claims (USAA also had no orientation, just Allcat deploying adjusters to comitt them). I got a few buddies that were still there in there hotel last night with no claims. So a full week of expenses and no claims. Appears the new management dont really care that its costing the little man to sit. This was my last event for them, or I guess my prior event was last one as I got no claims on this one. I know quite a few of the adjusters I worked with over the past few years at Allcat went to RJMW and Renfroe, they are all in LA now working Hartford, USAA and SF.

Hello Ms. Lucy, I don't know your experience level however I would be inclined to say that whilst a moderately sized deployment is occurring, I don't think it will rise to the level of an all hands on deck event. I don't think there will be much need for rookie adjusters to start filling the ranks of the deployed. Of course I could be wrong, but I believe that although there was some decent wind damage, the lion's share of the damage would be attributed to flood and therefore a good event for NFIP certified adjusters. To become NFIP certified usually requires 4 years of experience to become certified in handling flood claims for residential and mobile home claims. 5 years minimum for Commercial and RCBAP flood claims.

Again, you may very well be experienced and NFIP certified. There are quite a few vendors looking for NFIP certified adjusters. If that is the case check out the classifieds right here on CADO for the next step.

I wish good luck to you!

Stanley, I don't know you but I feel your pain. Lots of IA firms pulled the trigger and deployed adjusters to staging areas before Irene's landfall last year and I have seen the exact same thing prior to Isaac's landfall. Lot's of folks were told to hang around and after a few days they saif they weren't needed. Some got a few hundred bucks for expenses and some got nothing but a sorry.

I must say I am shocked to hear of this kind of nonsense on the part of Allcat. They used to command a great deal of respect and credibility and I considered those deployed with Allcat on behalf of USAA to be the cream of the crop.

With that being said, the way they treated you does NOT bode well for their credibility.

Stan you got off lucky, they sent me and then had me stay there until the following week promising claims from USAA. No word on head home or anything. I even emailed the new VP Jay Stewart several times and he never responded, finally I headed home. I can tell you since the wolfenburgers left it has gone down hill. You cant get a return call or response to emails. Before you heard from someone within minutes, 24/7 and there was plenty of work. Hopefully you will get out on next one. Take care

Allcat has been a joke of a company for quite some time now.

I would stay away, far away.

I consistently see trucks with Allstate decals on them in NOLA. Call Pilot and see if they have work.

I have seen many, many Allstate (Pilot) adjusters' trucks w/ladders in the parking lot at my hotel in the Chicago burbs over the past few months.  Not as many now, maybe 6-8...but there were upward of 20-25 during June-Aug.  Chatted with a number of the fellows, and they said the work was generated by PA's and roofing salesmen.  Lotta "no claims", and bad neighborhoods.

I'm not working local losses, just inside HO Cat Team for national losses.  So I asked my regular staff colleagues who live around here, and they had no idea why Allstate would have that many IA's here, particularly at one hotel.  Tells me there must be a bunch others at other hotels too.  Just goes to show, there is work out there for IA's thanks to PA's and roofing salesmen.  But prepare yourself for the min fee schedule and wear a bulletproof vest.

    ...and wear a bulletproof vest.

I sense another Tools of the Trade forum starting, "What type of protection do you prefer while working claims in dangerous neighborhoods?"  I know a guy who wore a Kevlar jacket while working Katrina claims.  What a hoot!

..... few and far between. Talked to several adjusters staying in the RV park in eastern New Orleans. They see one or two a day, then come back to the RV park to chat. Been very 'social', but not the big event that the Weather Channel blew it up to be. I arrived home to NOLa late (Aug 5th) and managed to pick up about sixty or so claims thus far. Many of my local adjuster contacts have said they were put on stand-by from several companies, but no work materialized.

The "Cantore Effect" seems to be losing some of its punch. Guess the Weather Channel has to "Hype" these small events to sell commercials.

JUD: Maybe a new thread on 'reliable weather predeiction sources' is in order...

.Steve, those RV folks you spoke of, were two of them an adjuster team Kevin and Diane? I am SO proud of these guys and what they have accomplished in the last few years. It seems that some folks are just made for this industry.

Oh yes, about the CANTORE effect. Nothing says hurricane season like Cantore duct taped to a mailbox! I agree that Cantore and company seemed to be more along the lines of a used car salesman trying to sell us a lemon

Cantore and crew are not only misleading but downright dangerous! Safely glasses are the bare minimum as far as needed equipment goes. I keep thinking that on one of these shows an announcer is going to receive debris in the eye. Worse than that a piece of slate roofing is going to connect on live TV.

Some day a reporter will loose their head on live TV, literally. We will then listen to a week of how great and brave they were.

Cantore is the only guy I know who wears swim goggles on dry land... he's unstoppable !! If you want to know where the 40 MPH storm of the century is heading... he'll tell you!
