Is it possible to work for more than one independent firm doing local work? I mean, do inpendent companies allow this? Are there any adjusters here that do it?

Absolutely! During 2008 I received work from 5 different sources. None had enough to keep me busy full time, all knew I was handling claims for others. If not you wouldn't be "independent".

Absolutely not. I've worked for the same IA contractor for 8 years and unless you are willing to lose any priority with them then go ahead and spread you self around. You'll soon be come unrealiable with the good firms and you can bounce around all you want. These contractors talk between themselves. Good luck!

If your contractor has enough to keep you busy then great, remember the question was regarding local dayclaims. For cat deployments, you are right, best to stay with one vendor. But locally, there is usually not enough business to keep an adjuster busy full time, at least that's the way it is is my area.

Its how you read Davids Question. I agree with both answers. If you are trying to work for a local IA in your area, be exclusive. If you are getting losses from vendors you have never met and who pickup some regular claims, this is OK in my mind.

The local IA,s will not put on a person who is still interested in storm work. It,s very hard to make a living this way. Get on with the big 4 and work as much as you can each year.
