I need advice on what and which steps to take to get off the ground.  First off my experience.  I'm 53 yrs. old, owned a building and development company for 27 yrs for residential and light commercial projects, built and owned multi family apartment buildings, hold a degree in Civil Construction/Engineering, Sold life insurance and annuities, elected to public office, started and owned a food concession business for eight years and did Public property adjusting under another adjuster. Presently I have a start up home inspection business and a member of Internachi in which I obtained many certifications such as lead, mold, radon, log home.

I have just got my home state adjusters license and Xactimate certification through Adjuster Pro.  I plan now on getting out resume's to as many firms as I can.  My next step is to get the State Farm certification once I get on the rosters.

What would be a good next step?  Is there any adjuster training coarse on protocol?  Ideally I would like to be an independent doing daily claims if that's possible.  And have the opportunity to do CAT if they arise.  I have no problem traveling across the country and have a place in N.C, and NYS.   I live in North Western Montana right now and seem to feel that this may be a possibility here due to the fact it's not financially feasible to have claims offices here or staff adjusters?

Hi,  I would suggest either go to an adjuster school that is sponsored by an adjusting firm, its usually two weeks.  They will add you to their database and call you to go to work when something pops up.  They like to get new adjusters acclimated, but you won't get a lot of work, unless there is a big event.  The other way, would be to find an active adjuster and help him with claims so you know what to expect and he can provide you the training until you get on as an adjuster yourself.

It's not an easy life and with your life skills you might want to find something else.  That's just my take.

    Good Luck

    Mark
