Deadline for Filing Claim: (1)require an insured to file a claim under the policy not later than the first anniversary of the date on which the damage or loss that is the basis of the claim occurs; The commissioner, on a showing of good cause by a person insured under this chapter, may extend the one-year period described by Subsection (a)(1) for a period not to exceed 90 days.

 

In this quick tip we cover issues related to Overhead & Profit (O&P) that you may encounter in the field.  Some clients may request that you handle O&P in a different way then what your current default settings allow.  In those cases you may only wish to change the settings on a selected file instead of changing your system setup. 

Well folks here we are in 08. A retrospect of 2007 by most of us would reveal the bleak employment prospects that faced the majority of cat adjusters. Do we think that 2008 will be more favorable employment wise? Early predictions seem to indicate conditions favorable to the development of weather patterns conducive to employment. Aren't these the same predictions as 06 and 07? Oh well maybe they got it right this time. I'm sure a lot of you that had expectations of working after spending on training and carrier certifications were disappointed. How many have left for greener pastures or simply by necessity? Will the numerous folks entering the field at the end of 05 and early 06 still be around if needed in 08? Is cat adjusting more of a vocation than profession? How is the industry to retain talent with this type of periodic work availabilty?We all know that the industry got hammered by bad publicity about the Katrina claims handling. With another year upon us without hurricanes causing any significant damage to U.S. property what is going to happen to the Cat adjusting community? Still see lots of ads for training schools. With the current situation all of the folks that took these courses must be saying I should of kept the fees in order to eat. Who is gonna remember the meagre amount of info these courses provide anyway. Better than nothing I guess but providing the answers to the exam did not really prepare anyone to adjust properly anyway. What are the veterans doing? Normally put enough money away to last from season to season but it's been two years. Daily Claims? I hear the big firms are slow. True? Lets see a state of the union. Your comments?

CADO has now been online for 12 years.  We first went online in 1995 and based on this CNN article we were one of around 18,000 websites at that  time and I believe the only website devoted to Cat Adjusting.  The same CNN article also stated that there were around 100, 000,000 websites in October of 2006.  When the site was first started it was called "The Disaster Page, A Catastrophe Adjuster's Home Page", we did not get the domain name CatAdjuster.org until 1997.  Our industry as well as CADO has seen many changes since we first hit the web.  You follow some of the changes by visiting the internet archive,  http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://catadjuster.org who started saving CADO pages in 1998,  here is a link to the May of 1998 CADO home page.

Recent articles published by Bloomberg a copy of which I've posted in the forums completely disparage the work we do. We are seen as mere puppets who foolishly obey our carrier and vendor masters with no forethought or ethics. We can basically be bought off and only follow orders. We are the fall guys in the war between unhappy insureds and the carriers in this post Katrina era. Folks who call themselves adjusters become whistleblowers. We are accused of falsifying reports, improperly attributing damages and pretty well being downright dishonest. Of course the media needs to sell newspapers and we all know good news doesn't sell. We don't hear about the good work done, the long hours, the hardships that we endure in providing our services. I won't pretend we're perfect I've been around to long to know better , but we need to make known our role in the claims settlement process. The public and media need to understand that we accumulate facts and submit recommendations for a final approval and decision from the...

As a group of Adjusters we have the unique opportunity to have hundreds of people in hundreds of different locations though out the nation.  Based on this I have placed missing children alerts through-out the site.  And since we spend a lot of our time while on assignments in neighborhoods making inspections let's keep an eye out for these children. If you see something that just does not appear to be right, then check the list.

Comments about the updates to the CADO site.

To amend the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 to provide for the national flood insurance program to make available multiperil coverage for damage resulting from windstorms or floods, and for other purposes.

Does anyone  have sample scenarios or questions for the xactimate levels of certifications that they could email me?
