From the street it resembles a cement tile... There are a few of these here in the Ft Worth area. I checked with a local contractor who quoted $420/square on and $20 off.

I think you may have found an aluminum shake roof made by ALCOA.....be careful, as I think it comes hollow or filled/backed with an insulation board material....(if it's hollow, you'll dent it when you walk on it).
It will probably be destroyed by the 18 roofers that come to give a bid on it anyway.....
Anyone have a different opinion? |

Sure looks like the Alumaclad Shake.
Check the material first, is it galvanized or aluminum?
Is it in a shingle form, (that is specific dimensions, 12x36 ) or is it individual shakes?
You may wish to check with local suppliers or on the net as they still make aluminum shake shingles and also galvanized materials of LK&Q.

Get a large screw drive, flat head, and lift a damaged shingle and photo the insulation or non-insulation.

Interesting tin. You might try the yellows for roofing contractors in Hawaii...a lot of quality metal roofs there. |

That is and alcoa metal roof and that cost is way high on the thing the price should be about $350/sq on and 20 off that roofer is way high. And look to see if it has been walked on as walking on it does more damage then hail. It is like walking on coke cans. I adjusted an number of these roofs in Austin this last year.
Let me know if that helps. |

I think the going rate is $25 off and $425 on, this includes all normal flashing and maybe cleanup/debris removal. That price is from the Dallas/Ft. Worth Area.

Try Lon Smith Roofing. They are the biggest in the area and very knowledgeable about products.
You can probably walk on the leading edges of the shingles. If you step on the middle, they will cave.

Check with your ins. co. before replacing this roofing material. Some co.s will not replace if only small dings ; require severe bends and penetration in the metal before replacing.... |

Thanks for all the help with this roof. The price does seem to be the going rate in the area and we just walked the valleys and moved the ladder around the roof. There was no insulation. |

Billy ELlis Roofing is the only "certified" installer of the ALCOA Aluminum Shake, in the DFW area. Also do not provide debris removal for the contractor, as he will salvage the aluminum.

Most of the Alcoa roofs in DFW are covering wood shakes. They are in no way shape or form safe to walk on, leading edge or not. You will crush them. I dont get on them until after they're totaled, and then use the adjusters footsteps. (or prior roofers)You might already find some from repairs done in the past, it seems that most everybody that has one, has leak problems.
The average pricing seems to be 25 off 420-425 on, with some companies adding 30 for the foam insulation (if it has it), as well as the wood shake removal and redecking.
Heck of a check for a roof that doesnt truly need replacement. Mind boggling. |
