With a possible land fall a week or more away, should companies be putting us on standbys (by noon Thursday have had 3 calls). Is this just a numbers game, see which guy has the biggest um, list, before the companies call, or do the companies want the vendors to tie up as many warm bodies as they can. And is there anyone who is not on more then one committed list? |

I wish NCA group would fix their automatic Adjuster standby phone system. I have had 6 calls in the last two days and each time I asked not to be called again, only to get another call.It is annoying and time consuming.I have tried emailing them to no avail. |

While a lot of vendor companies may use the marketing strategy that their list includes only people 100% committed to them (if there are such companies, please let me know!), any prudent carrier has to realize that, to some extent, the adjusters are a part of a large pool willing to go where there work is. So I do not believe that at the carrier level the property managers are trying to tie up as many warm bodies as possible, but that assumption does have merit on the vendor level. Vendors have to try and ensure that they can cash the check their marketing department wrote and feel extreme pressure to do so. The inability to adequately staff an event (except possibly in the extreme cases of huge, historic, catastrophic events)exposes the ones who make such kinds of promises, and therefore a wise carrier should include contingency plans instead of relying on one vendor. The ramifications go on forever, as the fee schedule structures/compensation rates seem to be getting lower and lower, staying the same for years, or at least are not keeping up with the cost of living adjustments based on inflation. I may be wrong, but the industry as whole has lacked in adequate training for many years, and in combination with their ever consuming need to reduce expenses, vendors that are slashing fee schedules to get a piece of the action, many very good people have opted out of the industry. That being said, there are good deals out there, if this things hits I will make good money, I will make some new friends, etc. It is a fact that from time to time a storm very well may and probably will hit where a carrier has no loss exposure. I'm sure there are some that may have had the fortunate experience of finding one company to have started, been trained, and flourish over their entire career, never being in want or need of a storm that their company never got the opportunity to work. I have mixed feelings about one-sided commitments, as should everyone (unless you know they will send you first). All I can advise is that as everyone gets their calls, if you are considering working for somebody new, to speak with others that have worked BOTH for that vendor AND the particular carrier, as your experience will be directly affected by that combination. Fee schedules, file requirements, storm guidelines, everything!Know before you go! |

You are close Alan J. Some time ago I predicted ,Izabel, between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach on the 16th , of course my MOJO may have lied. Only eight people got in on the contest here on CADO. I look for this one to head due west after a northwest course, thats a guess. Ya'll can hang me if I am wrong and you can catch me. {Hello everyone} I am not on any list that I know of. I have only sent one resume out. That was for sponsership to a training program. I may call around and see if anyone needs a "hey boy".

As for NCA just press "One" that will put you on their list and the phone will stop ringing. |

Depends on the number of bones that float upstream or what the market is. After all the prep I done and buying equipment. I had one lap top stolen and the other crashed bad. So I am in the market for more. Mine were HP, I'll put new hard drive in the one I have left and try another brand. Compaq worked pretty good for me, I may try another.
It doesn't surprise me that the vendors are getting as many names on the list as they can, this one realy looks bad.
Izabel may turn northwest and later buffeted due west, it all depends on the front due to arrive in New England. We will find out Tuesday or Wednesday.
I have not had time to read all the latest posts, maybe I can catch up tomorrow. My wife is doing well now, the doctor released her from future appointments unless required. She had lung cancer, skin cancer on her forehead, and other problems. She has been down at the pond the last two days fishing, so she must be ok. |

Newt, glad to hear all is well with you and yours. Just wanted to give you a bit of advice, if I may, on the CPU (HP owns Compaq and has for several years, they are the same thing). After suffering a crash (not a virus)on my 2year old custom built laptop (interesting that it happened 2 min after loading Xactsomething, and yes it had almost double all of the system requirements) I spent 17 hours on the phone with software vendor, Microsoft, manufacturer, etc., only to be told to wipe everything clean and start again. Not exactly what I'm looking for at the beginning of what looks to be such a good storm. Several friends told me about their positive experiences with Sony. If you buy one of those or any other, DO IT DIRECTLY from the manufacturer (Not a large box retailer)!! Buy only warranties from the manufactuer! No third party warranty, they will just leave you out in the abyss pointing fingers back and forth w/ maker. Can't speak for the Sony yet, hopefully it will arrive just in time to load all software...Oh, and they have the 12 months same as cash promotion going if you like that sort of thing. |
