Just to clear up an inaccuracy reported above in another post, Virginia DOES NOT REQUIRE adjusters to be licensed. The District of Columbia, New Jersey and Pennsylvania have no licensing requirements either.

Delaware, New York and NC have lenient waivers for catastrophes as well as reciprocity with home state licensed adjusters, but Delaware and Maryland do not (at least up to this point) have reciprocity or storm waivers.

In the past, out of state adjusters were more likely to run into licensing problems in Maryland and not likely elsewhere. The nature of this storm and the extent of widespread damages being forecast, are likely to cause many of these states to throw away the licensing rulebook, at least for the first 90 days.

And since you guys were talking about regional foods, please don't forget to sample some of those delicious Maryland crabs (especially around Annapolis). Mouth watering and quite addictive for lovers of good seafood, and don't be afraid to try the ones that are garlic steamed.

That's right Bryan and let's not forget about your intolerance for cold weather. All that heat in Texas has boiled your blood too thin. You need to put on a nice layer of fat for the winter months. Don't worry I will fill you up with plenty of greasy cheezsteaks and pizza. Nothing like Pat's or Geno's at 3 am after tipping a few!
See you there bro!

Another correction, Maryland does NOT have a license requirement, trust me I grew up there and just got done working a four month assignment on the Eastern Shore. Del. has a license requirement.

Virginia does have a prohibition on radar detectors, so hide them away good!

Ted,

Thanks for posting the information on adjuster licensing in the above mentioned states. I was contacted by a company out of Lincoln, Neb.-Alternative Claims Solutions to be on their standby list for Isabel and was not familiar with several of the East Coast states and their requirements. I was also not familiar with this company.

Has anybody out there heard good or bad about this vendor? I am a bit new to the CatAdjuster world on such a large scale but not new to insurance claims. Fifteen years both staff and self-employed independent mostly in Western Colorado. Trying real hard to digest some of the great info being passed around on this site.

Also, ACS is wanting to activate and deploy adjusters already to NC by Thursday 9/18/02. Is that a bit premature? I questioned them by email to send fee schedules and client base and was instructed fee schedules would be handed out during the initial meetings scheduled on Thursday evening. I am a bit skeptical about this process.

Thanks in advance for whatever information is passed on.

Thanks for the reference to the other post. I would have been really bummed to miss the field trial in Neb. this weekend as entered so the "watching and waiting" makes a lot more sense. I was really surprised at the ACS email today.

Guys, I've been waiting for a real claim high for eleven years now. Been adjusting for 20 years now. Worked probably eight thousand claims. Not since Andrew have I been in a crazed claim environment that a bigass hurricane brings. If you survive all the mayhem, it would be almost akin to a marine coming back from war with a Silver Star or the Navy Cross. Something you could share for the rest of your life. A the greatest seafood in the world everywhere.

A friend of mine down in Carolina sent me this weblink today which is a webcam from the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. It might be checking out later this week.

Don't panic until tomorrow morning. Have a look at the US water vapor loup, fighting it's way through the trough and takin a lickin and still kickin. When it clears the trough we'll see what happens, but looking more and more like NC
