Not to attack you Dorch (are you really 13 years old? (see profile)), but do you really think that where an adjuster is from should be or is a deciding factor for a multi-billion dollar carrier when making deployment decisions? I know nothing of NAFTA standards, but my guess is that they might be a little more strict than a 3 day course at Leonard's in TX, or worse, one of the states that don't even require anything from a person that just decides that today, they are going to be an adjuster.....

This "red-blooded" adjuster happens to subscribe to the theory that MAY THE BEST ADJUSTER GET THE JOB...Your post, whether intended or not, smells like a bit of jealously or possibly of some buried inadequacy in even implying that someone from the US or, rather ANYONE from the US should be called before an experienced "outsider"?....If not, I'm sorry, but you obviously feel passionate about the subject or you would have not have submitted such a long post on what has been a fun but relatively irrelevant subject...

I've worked with several adjusters from other countries, and some of them even know how to capitolize their sentences and use periods....(sorry, I just am not as restrained as the victim)Please!

When we started turning in our estimates to the carriers in the Montreal Ice Storm, I can tell you that they were shocked. What I was told by more than one claims examiner, is that the standard practice up there is for the "adjuster" to go and get his contractor buddy to write the estimate, and then turn it in with photos and service bill attached to a short narrative. It was unheard of for an adjuster to generate a computer estimate himself. We were using the DOS version (oh how I miss it) of Boeckh and when they insisted that the reports had to be in French, a group of the adjusters got together with their translators and wrote up the French forms that we could fill out in English! It was only two days from the time that they gave us the onerous French forms, until we started turning them in generated by out computers! I don't think any of the current crop of estimating programs can do that even now.

The point being, we were viewed in awe by the Carriers and their claims examiners, and roundly resented by the Canadian "adjusters" that were not computer literate. I don't know if the situation is any better now than it was five years ago, but that is the way it was then. I do know that several of our translators are now adjusters, and damn good one's at that. Just like the US, there are good ones up there, and some lousy ones too. However I do think we have a large number of lousy adjusters here too. I know about a half dozen that work here on a regular basis, some of them got their start in the ice storm, and to a man (or woman) they are solid adjusters. I don't think the numbers are high enough that anyone in the US that knows what they are doing will miss a ride on Izzy.

My two cents worth, I'm going out now to pack the truck.
