If I made ask a couple of questions from my experiences: Sewer backup into the house caused by tree roots in the soil pipe. I was told by the inside adjuster that coverage depends on whether the tree roots actually broke through the clay tile(covered) or if they grew between the seams of the clay tile (not covered) Does this seem correct? The tree roots had actually grown all the way up from the street to the 2nd floor toilet, blocking it and causing overflow.
Another claim I had was water in the basement coming thru the foundation wall. As best I could determine the water was backing up from the downspouts. Tree roots were causing a blockage between the house and the street. If I recall correctly the inside adjuster consider the downspouts to be part of the drainage system and that damage to the finished basement was covered. I had planned on denying it as I considered it to be ground water.

[:D] Hey folks, I've never seen so much beating around the bush on such a simple coverage issue. When you say the "septic tank", the first thing you think of is "it's on the premises", therefore it's part of Coverage A, the plumbing system. Then the question arises, "is it a non-broken chain of events, i.e., did the windstorm blowing the tree down result in the tree roots yanking on the field lines (or tank itself) result in the damage"? If the answers to the above questions are "yes", then the answer is yes, the cost of repairs to the "plumbing system" is covered. It is one, continuous chain of events (read: non-broken).
You can really show your absence of knowledge of the insurance industry when you go presenting a question of coverage to the claims manager you are working for, asking questions of coverage that are in "too much" detail, so as to unneccessarily cloud the issues. Therefore, present your coverage question with the least amount of information, but still be clear. All you need to know is what your principal's definition of Coverage A is.

Mike....we are having a very nice discussion.....sometimes "beating around the bush" can be more medicinal than a direct ,concise, response......In response to the lack of JF.....I miss JF......not his sarcasim, but his knowledge.....and one must admitt, it never was dull with him around....Anyway, it appears that we are moving forward.....things are much more relaxed .... |

Joe, thanks for the update. I don't know who JF is. I presume he has gone on to better places than this earth. My favorite position in any debate is being the "devil's advocate", and most times it does not come off the way it's intended. If anything can be misinterpreted, it is the written word. I'm a newcomer to this web-site and only wish to give a different perspective to some of these issues. I especially enjoy reading CCarr's missives, after recently traveling through British Columbia and Alberta, CA., in August. The Canadian newspapers were very well written and somewhat amusing in normal everyday descriptions and comments that are considered gross or shady here in the states. When I step into something over my head or that I'm not up to snuff on, then I will defer to others. MBrew |

Martin, JimF has moved on to better places, but he is still on this earth. He's working in coastal North Carolina right now. He's just been to busy to comment. Hang around, when he sticks his nose back into the clubhouse I think you might like hime. |

I don't know CCarr nor JimF but have enjoyed reading posts from each. I do sense the same sarcasm from CCarr as JimF and wonder if JimF isn't like Kryptonite to CCarr? Perhaps when JimF was around, CCarr just couldn't be superman? Healthy debate and allowing contrarian positions are healthy attributes in the education process. |

Yes Ami, if your two key ingredients "healthy debate" + "allowing contrarian positions", can be combined without spontaneous combustion resulting; it will result in a warm and fuzzy healthy attribute in the education process.
Other than that, I must advise that your comparative analysis and conclusion that I can transform myself from a newpaper reporter (Kent, I think his name is) to someone else, is incorrect. Although I never looked at it that way before, you may in fact have it reversed.
Ami there is a bit of history in regards to your comments, that you are not aware of, as there are some current dark shadows regarding this; that most are not aware of. |

Perhaps not alter egos...but perhaps Siamese twins separated at birth by a bris and both being misplaced with one raised in Canada and the other in North Carolina?
The possibilities are mind boggling! If this scenario gets turned into a movie script, I want 20% for being the creative consultant. |

Joe, glad you agree on the coverage issue for the septic system, from the contractor side I would have made the same call. |
