I HAVE POSTED ADS ON THIS SITE TODAY TO OFFER PERSONAL ASSISTANT TYPE SERVICES FOR ADJUSTERS. HAVING GENERAL LINES LICENSE IN TX AND STORM SITE EXPERIENCE. DO YOU FEEL THAT THIS IS A WORTHWHILE VENTURE? WOULD IT BE USEFUL TO HAVE SOMEONE DO YOUR TIME-CONSUMING CHORES? FIND/BOOK MOTELS?, MAKE INITIAL CONTACTS?, FILL OUT FORMS/INVOICES?, SCHEDULE AND MAP SCOPES? RESEARCH CONTENTS?. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK. DO YOU THINK THAT THIS IS WORTHWHILE AND WHAT TYPE OF MONETARY VALUE WOULD YOU PLACE ON THIS TYPE OF ASSISTANCE. YOUR INSIGHT WOULD BE GREATLY VALUED. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE. |

Lisa,
I think some will benefit from your generous offer. Your postings will probably get moved to another area. I believe the majority of adjusters here would like nothing more than utilize services like those you're offering. Unfortunately, business is very, very slow right now. I believe most of us are exhausting our reserves. It is out of these reserves that afforded your services would come from. As you know, it takes almost 6 weeks to have the finances rolling in from storm work. Living on reserves for 6 weeks can be tough. Since alot of your work is done up front, many will not have the resources necessary to pay you for your much needed assistance. I for one will keep you in mind. Although I reside in Kansas, "I am busted flat in Baton Rogue, waitin' for the train!"

Would a delayed billing (big leap of faith on my part) be in order then or maybe credit card billing. I'm in Limbo at this point on how to work out the billing and fee schedules and will do more research on that aspect. I'll make myself available 24/7 to get the job done cause we know that once those claims are downloaded the cat center wants contacts made immediately and you have to know if the area you're being deployed to has accomodations w/data ports and if your ISP has a local or toll-free access #, etc.
DadX9 Hope you're train comes in soon.

Lisa, there are many quality PDR companies and roofing companies that may also be interested in your services, but may also require you to do sales or customer service. |

Lisa,
Thanks. I don't think you should 'front' your services. If you are able to stay at this this season, I am sure you would reap the benefits next season. Just like getting started in adjusting.
Good luck. |

cardude We've been G/C / Roofing Contractors since 1992 or so, I've even been known to sell and climb a roof or two myself, but I don't want to go there again! Been there, done that, got the scars to prove it.....Thanks for the idea though.
Dadx9 Yesterday I was just trying to create a job for myself, but the phenomenal response that I've gotten is really giving me something to think about. I have a college education in Business and Accounting and have ran my own G/C business for the last 10 years so I know what to do to get the ball rolling, right now I'm having to re-think my level of commitment to this venture. The last 3 years have been spent developing new allstate agencies w/someone else's name on the door, Looks like it's my turn now.
I thank you all for your insight and advice. |

Lisa, Never ever front your service. You will lose every time. The position you described is called "Girl Friday". Throw in some cooking (if you have time to even fit it in on a real storm) and you have a service that is unlimited in enumeration. Is it going to happen, NO! CATin should almost be labeled a sport instead of job. With all the hurdles we climb and rabbits we pull out of a hat, the money paid to the adjuster is just a side benefit. When it's good, IT IS GOOD. It is either feast or famine, but the service you describe cannot be denied as valuable. The buck starts with the first phone call made and the first risk inspected all the way to the end. It's simply art and sport in between. Did I mention meeting the most wonderful group of people, other adjusters, as also being a benefit? These people are friends for life and if you are lucky you meet them somewhere else, on the next storm. As far as a fee to be charged for the service you describe, you could place it in form as a percent of the service fee they get paid. There you will have some higher than others and some will be no-claims, but even then there is usually a minimum charge.
In order to make your idea realistic, you need a buddy system, and then the fringe benefits could be phenomenal. This comes from someone that has been there, done that. Your offer is great, but you will Never be paid what the service is worth.
