Snake Oil, a refreshing elixir of vision and determination, or a potent viscous matter clinging to the souls of our shoes?

I considered that as the question this morning, as I reviewed the Bulletin Board and read "mack's" note, who evidently has something stuck on his shoes.

A review of the Bulletin Board, including going back several pages, does not support mack's ill founded statement concerning Jim Lakes frequenting the BB.

Aside from Jim Lakes April 3rd announcement of his new venture and his participation at the convention, there is no evidence of the rather rude and quite uncalled for claim, that he is hogging the BB with any regularity.

However, this issue in part, causes me to want to air another thought. I suggest we do not hear enough from the IA vendors to whom independent contractors are dependent on.

Jim Lakes has participated in CADO discussions more than any other IA vendor, and that participation has been helpful and supportive. I believe he dispenses only a refreshing elixir of vision and determination.

Why don't other vendors provide their perspective to the issues we - as independent contractors - talk about?

When you consider all the vendors who want to load their stables with your resume and certificates, how many have demonstrated any real positive action regarding our collective livelyhood?

Consider the upcoming convention. Three IA vendors are noted sponsors - Pilot, Crawford, and SCS & Associates. As well, Jim Lakes's company and Worley are leading sessions at the convention, and I can tell you from the time I've put into preparation, that it is no small undertaking.

Five IA vendors, sponsoring or actively involved in your convention. Five, giving back to the people whom they count on, when it is time to show and prove their value to their client carriers.

I'll gladly take a case of their snake oil, which to me is a refreshing elixir of vision and determination; from each of them.

mack, the source of what curdled your cream this morning, is not Jim Lakes.

Amen and well said Clayton.

I know Jim Lakes and I know him to not only be one of the foremost professional and knowledgeable adjusters in America, but a Gentleman of the highest order. Jim not only has a business relationship with the cat adjusters who work for RAC, but he is friends with us as well. No vendor out there will ever treat their independent catastrophe adjusters with more respect, dignity, consideration, and kindness than Jim and RAC.

The post which Jim Lakes had made on the CADO Bulletin Board was important, at least to some of us, in sharing that Jim and Ed Erickson, now own, control and manage the separate RAC Cat Company, while maintaining an affiliation with RAC's regular daily operations.

Jim Lakes and Ed Erickson are two of the finest individuals you will ever be lucky to meet and work for, and beyond their claims experience and professional excellence as exemplified by both attaining and holding the RPA (Registered Professional Adjuster) designations, they represent the very best by example of how every vendor should treat their adjusters.

I cannot say enough good about Jim, Ed, and the new RAC Cat Company, but I know my thoughts and feelings are shared by the many who have been fortunate enough to work with and for them, and well as others who have come to know them through the tireless contributions they have personally made for the education, training, and advancement of catastrophe adjusters everywhere and of every stripe.

I echo the sentiment of the two previous post, both from fine gentlemen. Jim Lakes is great to work for, and if any of the Companies are reading this send him work, so some of us can get out there.

I have to weigh in here and say that Jim Lakes, with whom I have only a passing acquaintance, used the bulletin board for its intended purpose. Should some of the other vendors, to include software vendors use the bulletin board to announce their impending changes it would be a relief.

Chuck, the reason the vendors do not post anymore is the fact that when they did make a post, they received personal affronts and criticism, most unfounded. Now, who wants to make a post and suddenly be put on the defensive when all they were trying to do was to make rational statements about their products or procedures.

I made a post 4 years ago about having a CADO convention or adjuster get together and started reading personal affronts, etc. I decided that would not be done again and that is why you do not see posts by the vendors. Unfortunately some adjusters have a propensity to criticize too much. Until that stops, I doubt any vendors will make a post here. Just look at the SF and FIG criticisms and deliberate put downs. I am sure I will get affronts on this post. As soon as we begin to show some professionalism on this web site, vendor posts will not appear. I don't care for some of the vendor behavior, but nothing can be gained by pointing fingers and personal affronts.
