There Lisa, "I did it" for you again. This and another one of your posts came up as an 'active topic', and I go to it to only see you have made yet another suttle and meaningless edit, so you can keep your post - which is masquerading as a classified ad - as current and in our face.

We know you exist, your ad is in the classifieds; isn't that enough?

I must admit to using a personal assistant on the last storms I worked in the field. It was absolutely fantastic, as the assistant I used was also a licensed adjuster whom I felt comfortable with talking policy with my insureds, scheduled all of my appointments, AND handling almost every phone call on every claim, not to mention the handwritten paperwork (billing sheets), entering claims into photoadjuster and Xactimate, printing files, assembling them, etc. The use of the assistant greatly enhanced my production, enabling us as a team to out-perform almost every single adjuster on site while going out for dinner and enjoying the trip and locale......much to the envy of all my friends and peers holed up in the hotel until the wee hours of the morning....My assistant also started going out on appointments with me later, which helped me scope in peace while still relaying important claims processes to the insured...BUT i have to admit to "cheating" a bit, since my assistant on storms was also my wife....which in itself has fringe benefits on those long trips away from home...

Well Marc, you got me! There I was reading away with great interest, thinking of a number of questions I was going to ask; then you come up with the 'punch line'.

Good for you, I'm glad it works.

The lingering question I wanted to ask, before you qualified your post, was what are those claims services (clerical & technical) worth?

In hindsight are those services worth a set fee per file, or a percentage of your percentage?

If you care to venture into that, I would appreciate your opinion in as much detail as you care to provide.

It would be hard to put an exact dollar amount per file or a percentage on what the help is worth....

I do not doubt that the help my adjusting wife gives me allows me to work an easier day.... My closings haven't really increased, but then again I'm feeling my age a bit more than I used to- but I DON"T have to stay up past midnight to get everything done...

Excluding my personal situation, I do know some who bring newbies in, pay all of their expenses(food and hotel)just to allow the trainee to gain experience. In some cases I've heard of a small ($10-20/file or 75-100/day allowance)

Anyone else hear of any similar experiences/arrangements?

Sharing my experience:
I've been a "closer" from home for an adjuster friend of mine. He priority mailed all claim related info including photos. I compiled the estimate & report from his scope notes, mounted and narrated photos and finished up by overnighting them to our adjusting office for final review. Edits were done via fax. He referred policyholder's to me to field any questions that arose after his inspection. I was paid a percentage of his payment fee. It worked out well for both of us. It was costly to overnight boxes. However, at a time when I couldn't get out into the field, it worked out well. My bills were paid and it allowed me to stay home with my kids.

Just an additional bit of info: I'm an all-lines licensed adjuster. I've done field work (daily & storm), currently employed as an "inside girl" and have also traveled to a storm site to close files 2 other adjusters (for this I was paid a set fee per file).

BTW, I wish you well in your endeavors Lisa.

I had my wife from 1500 miles away set up all my inspections. Was less expensive than using my cell phone, and freed up my time for everything else. All I spent was 1/2 an hour on the phone with her, giving her the numbers, mapping them, and she faxed back my schedule.

I do this for a good adjuster and his production has jumped about 75% This relieves him of any computer work-only checking the final product before signing. The question is, How should I get paid? Am currently working on % of total commission. To Old To Climb!

I considered doing work on a % basis but it would require a lot of trust and paperwork. Would be o.k. for adjusters that you've developed a long term relationship with though. What I've had to determine is what my time is worth compared to what my services are worth in comparison to what is affordable for my clients. And in all of this... I also had to take into consideration that not everyone works for the same vendor or carrier and that not everyone uses the same procedures, software, etc. But, I've always felt that anything is possible if I kept an open mind so as to realize all of the possibilities of this venture.

I have developed a price guideline to use. I have consulted and worked for several adjusters over the last few months to ensure that the pricing is cost effective. It is however just that - a price guideline. I tried to make it as affordable and fair as possible. If it doesn't work out that way then I will modify it in order to stay affordable yet profitable.

I'm sure you'll agree that MS&B/IC's recent price increase is not going to help. Be ready when you call to re-activate. Ask for the quarterly billing discount, it helps take a little of the sting but not much. Although I've been told that it is still cheaper than the X brand which I have still sitting on the shelf! I have had several inquiries as to whether I use Xactimate and I have looked at it several times only to put it back on the shelf as it doesn't appear to be cost-effective at this time to pay for leases on both so I'll stick w/MS&B/IC for now since their HQ is close by and I can get assistance from some of their people that I know personally.

I really appreciate all of the input that I got from the "Welcome Wagoneers" as CatDaddy called them earlier in this thread. They gave me alot to think about and offered a lot of advice that has been very beneficial to this process. Thanks to you all, Lisa.
