Having a quick look at the active topics this morning, I see there was another rash of drizzle; with a trilogy of trifle in the Software Forum.

Thoughts immediately came to mind to rouse our long legged cheerleader, come moderator.

However, the above noted observation, coupled with the thought that followed above; made me think of one of my favorite pieces of music that has endured with me - from an LP in 1969 as a young adult, to a CD of the Broadway play in 1993.

The great music and wonderful lyrics, are by Peter Townshend.

"Tommy, Tommy
Tommy, can you hear me?
Tommy, Tommy, Tommy can you hear me?"

Later, Tommy encounters a hooded figure, a chemical induced Gypsy; badly in need of a fix, who has a tendency to rant.

"I'm the Gypsy - the Acid Queen!
Pay before you start
I'm guaranteed to tear you apart
Gather your wits and hold on fast
Your mind must learn to roam
Just give me one more night."

Later, In Act II, Mrs. Walker, grows impatient with the foolishness she has had to endure.

"Know that I have come to the end
All my patience is gone
This has gone far enough!
After all we've been through
We've done everything we can humanly do
It's a time to be tough
A time to be wise."

Near the finale, others start to implore Tommy to do something.

"We're not gonna take it
We're not gonna take it
Never did and never will
Gonna break it, gonna shake it
We're not gonna take it
Won't take your derision
We forsake you."

At the finale, Tommy, the Wizard that he is, steps up and acts; something like this.

"Welcome to this house
I don't know why your here
You are not like Tommy, I hope that's clear
You shouldn't be an ape on my show
It isn't just pinball
You are not normal, after all
This is a bust!"

Clayton: Very nice metaphor for those with vision to what you're saying.

Jesus too, in his teachings, used symbolism and imagery when he wanted to impart especially important lessons for us to learn.

Geez, Louise! It's the Twilight Zone we live in! The psychic cosmic waves have also put a WHO lyric in my head that won't go away. It's regarding our Iraq thread and politics. I think it's from 1972. 'Here comes the new boss, just like the old boss. We just got fooled again!'

Clayton, have you been reading your tea leaves and messing around with egg yolks again? All this voodoo hexing and spells has spilled over and caused the oil pressure light to come on in my Triumph TR-7. I wish you would quit it.

Is 1967 still a blur to anyone else? Or am I the only one?

Some of you truly do go back to the day lol in 1967 I was 12. Saw Tommy the Movie. Me Im more a Hotel California(eagles) guy. Pat Benatar and disco lol. Better than what my son listens too. Ever heard of System of a Down or Rammstein. Rather put an electric drill in my ears. Oh well generations change so does the music.

Isn't it so? It is hard to imagine now just how loud I used to play the Beach Boys, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc.

However, just to prove the myth wrong, I do occasionally still crank up Willie Nelson, Frank Sinatra, Eric Clapton, etc.; plus the aforementioned from my yoot.

While making my last post, I was reflecting on my opening post; and how it had seemed to have passed the test of time without a more critical 'eye'.

It reminded me (in the music mode) of the mediums that have not passed the test of time.

Music came to my ears as a child (aside from the radio) via my parent's "33 1/3s" records, weighing about 1/2 a pound each, and about 1/8" thick. In my yoot, I collected a large pile of "45s" that never cost more than .98 cents each. Then the "LP" collection started, it was big money to spend $5.98 for a Beatles or Rolling Stone album. Of course, when I was 16 and got a car, I had to instal a tape deck, and start collecting "8 Tracks". They got relegated to the hunt camp with the advent of "cassettes", and the collection started all over again; at that point $9.99 was a good price for a Waylon Jennings cassette, others costing up to $14.99. That all got shipped to the hunt camp, with the advent of "CDs"; and the collection started over yet again, with $15.99 being a good deal for a decent CD.

If I have counted right, I have lived through 6 mediums of music; and now with over 400 CDs, I am not going to do it again. I see kids with discs about 1/2 the size of CDs, and even with head sets on; I can still hear that it is music they are playing. I just won't do it - I'll either have to get old, or make do with what I've got; or have a good claim.

Hang on to those CDs Clayton. I believe the next format will be DVD audio. It is competing with Super Audio CDs or SACDs but the fact that you can play DVDs CDs and DVD audio discs with the new 6.1 DVD players I think the DVD audio format will be the winner, but then again, Beta was the better format but VHS won out.

Back to the original band in this thread, The Who, I saw them on their 25th anniversary/farewell tour in 1989 at RFK stadium in D.C. It was the summer after I graduated from high school and the last time I was with all of my old high school buddies and buddets all at one time. It is a memory that I will never forget. Possibly the best time I ever had in a crowd. The stage looked like a giant pinball machine complete with flippers and they let out a giant silver beach ball to be the pinball. It got bounced around the crowd for the entire concert.

Looking back I think it is ironic that even though that concert in 1989 was supposed to be The Who's farewell tour, they lasted longer than the stadium did. Unfortunately with the demise of John Entwhistle and the recent arrest of Pete Townsend for unseemly behavior The Who may have finally met its end.

A large quantity of music is no longer measured in numbers of albums or CD's, the quantity is now measured in Gigs, as in, "I have 80 gigs of MP3's." My son carries 240 gigs of music in his car. Several hundred continuous hours.

That would almost equal the number of Willie Nelson CDs available
