The ISO reports that the storms that ripped through 18 states earlier this month are expected to cost insurers $1.55 billion, making it the 3rd most costly windstorm in history.
The ISO PCS predicted insurers will receive more than 429,000 claims resulting from more than 400 tornadoes that hit from May 2 - 11/03. They break those figures down as follows for the "top" 6 affected by estimated dollar loss;
Missouri - approx 62,000 claims, worth $275 million Oklahoma - approx 55,000 claims, worth $245 million Nebraska - approx 31,000 claims, worth $175 million Georgia - approx 30,000 claims, worth $90 million Illinois - approx 37,500 claims, worth $75 million North Carolina - approx 24,500 claims, worth $75 million
The highest insured loss resulting from a windstorm cat was $2.2 billion in April 2001 affecting 16 states, followed by a $1.7 billion loss in April 2002. |
