Donnie Hardin, of Tunica, MS passed away Sunday after sustaining injuries Saturday when he fell from his ladder. The fall was not a very long fall. He was about halfway up the ladder and had not reached the roof yet. Please be safe.

Too Many of our fellow adjusters have died as a result of this trade. Please, everyone, remember the rules, and be safe. Condolensences to another fallen breathern.

I didn't know Donnie but my heart goes out to his loved ones. This is a time of need and if someone in the know will post an address I will make a cash donation to help with expenses and ask others to do the same. Remember the 2 minutes for safety rule. Think about it for 2 minutes before you do it.

Donnie worked for Pilot Catastrophe, Im sure you can contact them for information. I will also check on any details I can find. Pilots # is 1 800-345-2287. It is events such as this that should make us all stop and be aware of the dangers involved in our trade. Everyone should always practice the 2 min rule, it could save your life or at least injury. Please be safe and also remember Donnie's family over the next few days.

I heard today that Pilot's safety guy (?) is investigating and that Donnie was on a ladder, not on a roof, and fell from the ladder. As I understand he hit his head on concrete and was in the hospital a couple of days before he passed. If someone has better information please post it.

Dear Mr. Deaton and other concerned adjusters: My name is Michelle Duggan (Hardin maiden name) I was Donnie's baby daughter, two older sisters and one younger brother. He had one grandson 14 years old, two grandaughters one 6 and one was born the day before he left for flordia in august 2004. He came home in september when they had everyone leave the first time home for about another day then back to florida. My sister and myself live in Atoka, Tennesssee outside of Millington. We got a call from the home owner on October 16 that Saturday and he told us daddy was half way up the ladder when he fell or it gave way were not real sure what happen still being investigated by lawyers and oshea, anyway the man said he was two feet away ( I wish he had held the ladder) he landed on his head and the man called 911 and administered cpr because he wasn't breathing and life flight took him to orlando regional hospital where they tried everything and tube in to have fluid drain to reduce the swelling. He never woke up on sunday the seventh the hospital did a test to see if he could breathe without the respirator and if he couldn't the law states he is brain dead and wouldn't have to make the decision that would decice for us he could not breathe on his own and they turned off the machines and he passed away shortly after that. I want to thank all of the adjusters he worked down their with they have all been great to our family. I pray for all your safety and hope better saftey standards are initiated after this. My husband found this site today I learned two more adjusters family have lost a family member due to accidents I don't know anything else I am just so sorry someone else has to go through such pain. I has been almost five months and I pray everyday for strength but how I get over the pain of my broken heart i don't know I still cry everday at least once sometimes more. I was proably closer to him than anyand I would talk to him at least twice a day every day that was why I got my cingular phone no long distance charges I don't no where use any of my minutes now. I was feeding the baby that friday when he called and I told my husband to tell him I would call him later I never got around to it. He was suppose to be coming home that next week to testify in court and not to long ago my six year old goes but mamma he promised he was coming home. I dream about him all the time that is when I sleep and I just wish he would talk back. I am sorry to keep going on please be safe, tell your loved ones how much there loved and very important were learning the hard way have your personal business in order. Not only do we have to deal with the heartache we have to deal with workman's comp, trying to keep his house, more nightmare personal things I won't mention. If anyone want to call, email, or write here is my information. My email is jeff28@650dialup.com. (admn edit) I will keep you all in my prayers especially the two more adjusters families believe me I know how you feel. Thank you again, Michelle Duggan

Please pray for my family on August 25, 2005. It was my Dad's birthday and he would have been 61. He is greatly missed still. There is not a day that goes by that he is not thought of. His grandson Justin will be 15 in September and is a sophomore in highschool. He is still playing football and I know that Daddy is watching. Please be safe and tell your family you love them each and everyday. God Bless, His Daughter Beverly Cole My Email address is bvcole@tipton-county.com.

I've been climbing roofs for over 25 years. I've never fallen from a roof but, have fallen from ladders 3 times. Please place the ladder in the valley when possible and always have a bungee cord with you when placing the ladder against gutters. I especially hate double pulls. I keep a 2 x 4 and # 12 nails with me to secure the ladder when doing double pulls. It's easy to caulk the nail holes when I'm done and it's much safer. Please be carefull. If it makes you uncomfortable, come back with a teammate later. It's not worth it!

Reading these posts about Mr. Hardin is very poignant. In this circumstance a safety helmet might have saved his life. Something to think about.

Michelle, I read your note here in the CADO. My prayers are with you. I have been a cat adjuster for 25 years and I knew your dad. I know from my life on the road, the hardest thing to do was to leave my home and see my wife and dauters face when pulling off. The only comfort was always knowing I was providing a better life for them. I as you Dad knew because we discussed this subject several times. People would always make remarks like your putting money before Family. Thats so far from the truth, a life as a catatrophe adjuster may appear like that to the people who have never had the experience of helping families that have been totally destroyed and needed a person like your dad to bethere for them and give them the money they deserve to get back to normal standard of living. It almost like a ministry of its on helping people like that. Donnie and I spoke of how it is good to help people and provide at the same time a better life style for Our families. I am a manager now with Pilot, I , like many others that knew your dad miss him. We were like a second family to each other. I know how it feels to get a word of how your dad thoughts were on the road, How he felt about you and others. My dad was a catastrophe adjuster also and passed away suddenly in 2001. I want, you too know I know he loved you so. I have come to realize there really are no mistakes that cause people to die I know it was not a perfect time for me to be without my dad but I know it was a perfect time for my dad to go be with Jesus. So please know that , as much as I miss my dad and yours. Take comort to know I truely believe as long as you hold him dear to your heart He will always be there for you. I still have my moments that I just feel like I cannot go on working as an adjuster on the road. My dad was a very Huge part of my life and my work, because we worked at pilot together for 19 years. Just keep it in your heart and mind to know He really would want you to do well and prosper because of the life he gave you. Anything else would be conter productive to what he worked for as a catastrophe adjuster. May God be with you and your family each and every second, of every minute ,of every hour ,of every day ,of the years to come. Your more than welcome to E-mail me and talk any time you every need a friend. Danny RainesE-mail Danny327@aol.com
