I was informed this morning by David Repenski, CEO of Cunningham Lindsey, that a dear friend and colleague, Gene Murphy, had passed away at 2:00 PM yesterday. For all that knew this man, none will ever forget him. He was a prince of a man, good hearted, understanding, and one of the most knowledgeable adjusters I have known. Janice and I send our prayers and condolences to his wife and children. We have known Gene for a number of years and always looked forward to being around him and working with him. Gene was one of a kind and tirelessly helped adjusters who needed help. He always looked forward to working Cats and to be with his friends. God bless you Gene and thank you for your friendship and sharing with all who worked with you and knew you. I will see you later, my friend.

I am extremely fortunate to call Gene Murphy my friend. One of my favorite of Gene’s sayings is “The time has come for us to go”. (Meaning we had been deployed in one location long enough.) The time has come for Gene to go, as it will for all of us. I will miss him more than I can say. My heart goes out to his family and other friends.

I posted the DASH and dedicate it to my Friend, Gene Murphy. I had to log onto IE to copy, as my Foxfire will not let me copy and paste. I failed to log on. Watch the DASH, as it has very strong meaning.

I worked with Gene for many years - over 10 to be exact. He taught a young guy right out of the staff side the ways of the world as an independant. He stood by me in some pretty deep stuff and some very tough storms. You see, I said I worked with Gene for many years, not that he "reported" to me, worked "for" me, or was my employee. Even though in the corporate world, all of these applied. I, as his boss for all those years, never felt that he "worked" for me, but instead he worked "with" me - he taught me a lot. He was my mentor in the independent cat business, he was my friend, and he was one hell of a cat supervisor. He was loved by many, and I am one of those many. You see, I was that young guy, fresh from staff side that became CL's Cat Director. Gene is the main reason for any success that we may have obtained during my tenure in that role for those 10 plus years as well as all the adjusters who did and continue to do such a fine job. This industry needs more Gene Murphys. If you wanted to know where you stood with Gene, all you had to do was ask, and most times, you didn't even have to ask! He was fair, friendly, but firm - just what you need in a cat office. I will miss Gene Murphy very much. He was, is, and always will be part of my life. As Gene would say "nice of you to stop by the office to visit, now get the hell out of here and get back to work!" May God Bless Gene, his home family as well as his adjusting family. Randy Gray Cunningham Lindsey

I have had the pleasure of working with Gene Murphy for several years. My words can't descibe the feelings of loss that those of us who knew him have felt. We have lost much more than a friend or a boss. Gene Murphy was " Papa Gene " to a lot of us for a lot of years and his passing is devestating. Some of us know that Gene Murphy's job didn't end at any specific time at the office. Gene had to know we were all ok before the end of any day.. I can remember so many times the adjusters meeting at Gene's room in some Motel somewhere just to talk about mostly nothing. I also remember when Gene had had enouph of everyone being there and told us all to leave. Working with Gene Murphy was a priveledge. I am thankful to have know Gene Murphy. Gene was a father to a lot of us when we were out on the road and he can never be replaced. Bryan Fleming

I learned of Gene's passing several days ago from a fellow adjuster who had worked with Gene on several storms. As he told me, you could see that he too had been a good friend of Gene's and was sorry to see him pass. I worked with Gene after Andrew in Baton Rouge and on another storm in New Orleans. I too regarded Gene as a friend, a hard working and knowledgeable adjuster and someone that always had time to listen to you and help you. The other posts on this board all seem to have a similar tone. We are all sorry for what has happened but happy that we were able to know such a person.

I have just learned of Gene's passing. I am saddened I was not aware of his untimely death, until now. I had know Gene for 23+ yrs and can honestly say, he was the fairest Cat Mgr I had/have ever worked for. From Lindsey & Newsom trainee, to staff adjuster, to staff Mgr, to Independent cat adj.,Gene was always genuinely interested in my well being. He always made me laugh, was tough, but fair and truly loved his wife and family. Man, we've lost one of the "good guys"! Gene didn't like alot fluff, so I'll spare a lengthy good-bye. Randy Gray's words were well said. In closing, my deepests sympathies, especially to his family and all of us who loved this man. And of course to Teresa Linne...I know how you must hurt over the loss of this dear friend of yours! Rest in peace my friend and thanks for taking the time to teach! ........in his hands now........ I was fortunate to have known and worked with Gene when I first started in the industry in the 80's. He was one of the best CAT men in the industry and I am thankful that he was one of the mentors I leaned on in my formative years.
