Hey all: I'm a new user and adjuster who's just playing around on my Simsol demo until I get done with my current job at the end of the summer. My mentor is familiar with Simsol so that's why I'm getting used to it, but I have 2 big issues with the software: 1. I would have to buy a new computer, as I'm a devoted Mac user and have a great laptop primed and ready for the road. Any possibilities? 2. I got thrown a religious tip in the Simsol demo about the "Truth" and the "Spirit" today which was really personally upsetting, and made me feel pretty alienated from the company. I wrote asking their policies, but I bet you all would know better. Can I buy "blue" and religiously neutral in any of the software if I'm taking my own claims independently and hence have the luxury of picking and choosing? TIA. Looking forward to getting to know all of you! Jessica

I have never heard about any Mac based estimating software, and I seriously doubt there is any major outfit that supports it. There's just no market to support it. Also, don't whine about being offended by Simsol. Just don't buy the product if you don't like it. It's their choice what they put in their product. My 2 cents. Brian

The short & skinny of it is that future products will eventually work on other systems/platforms. I think the first will be Simsol. I have not had any issues with their product except there are a lot of narrow minded carriers & vendors that will only accept Xactimate. The spirit of competition is eliminated when no choices are offered.

Jessica, You can turn off the “Tip of the Day” feature in Simsol that pops up when you first open the program. Just uncheck the little box located on that screen. That way you don’t have to worry about being faced with any more potentially upsetting messages. Or like “jonasb” stated, just don’t buy the product. I’m sure Simsol will respond to your questions regarding their policies and running the program on a Mac. But as a user of their product since 1990 I can tell you that I’ve never noticed any evidence of an agenda other than the goal of creating and maintaining a superior estimating software system. I will venture to say though that if you’re actually considering catastrophe adjusting as your new career you will need to be a bit more thick skinned or you will likely find yourself faced with all sorts of “personally upsetting” situations. And that is my 2 cents. Mark C. Moore

Jessica: The Simsol Tip of the Day quote you are referring to "the Truth comes out when the Spirit goes in." is a lyric from an old Irish drinking song. The translation literally means, "the Truth tends to come out more when alcohol has been ingested." It is not any way a religious statement, nor was it intened to be. The Simsol Tech Tips are a useful tool that provide helpful information as well as random humor that may help an adjuster deal with those hectic days out in the field. Simsol is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. We are committed to developing an inclusive environment where people from all backgrounds are treated with respect. Secondly, Simsol for Adjuster is designed solely for a Windows-based PC. There is a windows emulator for the MAC, however we do not support our software running in this environment. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at 1.800.447.4676 or www.simsol.com thank you Simsol Support Services

Jessica... the new MacPro Powerbooks are made for you. When you turn on the Mac and hear the familiar boot greeting you can hold down the <Option> key and choose whether to run Mac OSX or Windows. Works slick and very fast. My only concern was to wait for someone to make a larger internal hard disk. The biggest Apple is offering for the laptop is 120Gb although Seagate is now producing a 160Gb drive. I have been considering the 120Gb Macpro and merely installing Windows XP on the internal drive and installing all other software on my 120Gb external backup drive. You need "Bootstrap" from the Apple site to run on the MacPro to be able to choose OSX or XP. If you stick to your current Mac Powerbook you are stuck with Virtual PC and it is so slow as to be painful in my view.
