Due to Katrina and the rest of the '05 season there is an overabudance of new flood adjusters. We will probably never see flooding like we did in Katrina and may get back to regular cycles of work as soon as this year. Many of the new flood adjusters won't be able to wait another year if we don't see any flood event this season and their numbers will decrease to normal levels. That being said, there is always room at the top for good flood adjusters. But you have to pay your "dues" to get into the club. All our cat firm does is flood with the exception of a little single-adjuster work during hurricanes in a few states. We put on excellent flood classes for those adjusters who are already certified and ready to hit the ground running. There are several other firms who I would recommend and I would be happy to send you the list after you have your experience and certification. My advice would be get some estimating and insurance training and go to work for one of the larger adjusting firms such as Pilot, Crawford or GAB or go to work for a carrier in your local area and really get to know the profession of adjusting. With any of those firms you will get enough experience to get your flood certification number.
