I have a claim on a 3-ply BU roof with gravel ballast in Gainesville that needs to be replaced.
The total area to be replaced is about 18 squares and it is two stories.
I come up with about $10,000 on Xactimate but the insured has two estimates for $20,000 and $25,000 from two big roofing companies in the area.
Both contractors are using hot coal tar pitch and I was told that most roofers do not use pitch anymore and that this is part of the reason for the higher cost.
Does anyone have any suggestions or possibly a roofer I could contact in Gainesville for another estimate?

Coal Tar Pitch is the best roof one can install. The materials cost more, the labor costs more.

The price should be, w/insulation in the area of 1000-1200 sq.

It doesn't matter what the roofer wants to use. What matters is what's there now. Have you identified the current material? That's what you owe for.
