Has anyone used this?  What's the scoop with this program?  Pros? Cons?

Just read through the forum topic "2006-Year of the Software Wars?" and it should answer your questions. Appears that Symbility is headed our way and going to give the rest of them a run for their money.

Is it important that they are not marketing to us? They are marketing to our customers, not to us. So we have the same issues with the new products as we do with "Exacta-claim" or "Integri-mate" ... becoming deeply ingrained in a corporate culture rather than focusing on the industry application. This will continue since we are not "the dog." We are "the tail."

What could Symbility do that would get the large and small carriers to use their software instead of Xactimate?  I use Xactimate because the carriers I get assignments from insist on it.  I will switch to what ever estimating program the carriers I handle claims for switch to.  What would it take to get the independent adjuster using Simsol or Power Claim to switch to Symbility?

John, slide #10 shows a charge of $20 per claim from the carrier, $5 by credit card from the adjusters and hardware sales as sources of income per this 21 June 2005 dated presentation from their general annual meeting. If you do not have internet access I am not sure how you pay your $5. There seems to be no charge for the software itself. Slide #13 shows the Sketch/scoping part.

One thing we found out about the market place is new adjusting software vendors are often waited out before a carrier will adopt their software. This is really only good business judgment. Symbility is not only a new software package but they have changed ownership once in the last two years. As far as I know the DDS based I/C has not be picked up any new carrier accounts that were not purchase in the MSB venture that has since been sold to MDA of Canada. Another big initial knock against them would seem to be that they are pushing new technologies. It has very hard we found to become profitable pushing proven technology but who knows. New hardware technologies are getting cheaper as I type.

Clearly for Symbility to replace Xactimate in most carriers would take time. Some IA’s will try Symbility just because that is the nature of IA’s or PowerClaim and Simsol would not be viable adjusting software options today. How well Symbility can get their pricing databases to match the contractor going rates clearly will be key to their acceptance as well. The bottom line is without a positive cash flow any company is at risk and they transfer that risk to their customers. With a positive cash flow the clock does not click so loud by the second. If as some think Microsoft is at risk of losing market share to Google’s bold approach then all technology companies are sitting on top of the next technology that is about to explode in their industry.

I'm upset with Symbility... they said my card would not be charged, that it was just for verification purposes.  Well come to find out that they charged me $100.  What for?  I don't know.  I didn't even download anything or do anything with their program... it wouldn't verify my information but they charged me $100.  I guess we'll see how good their customer support is :)

Mat, did they offer a free trail period? So you did not get a statement as to what the $100 charge to CC as for?

Well, what exactly would you like?  A limited-function demo, free of charge, to try out new software?
Melton Global is currently developing estimating software, and we are very interested in input from working adjusters.  What do you want to see, what do you not want to see, etc.?  Our program 'Loss Tracker' was developed under the close consultation of successful adjusters, and our experiences in developing Loss Tracker will guide the development for our estimating program.  I would appreciate input/advice and suggestions from any adjuster willing to type out a note.

Preston, will your “Loss Tracker” import/export XML formatted claims so the adjuster does not have to use the keyboard to enter the notice of loss information? What adjusters seem to prefer is a free trial period with a fully function version of estimating software that never locks them out of their claim files so even if they never purchase your software so they can still view, print, email or transfer any claim file without being a paid user.

If you have current users of “Loss Tracker” that would like to transmit and receive claims info with adjusters in the field and you are already work with the XML format just go to www.powerclaim.com and download and save the sample claim using the XML (not mdb) option. Then view that claim and you will see all of the XML file structure to work from to quickly have your “Loss Tracker” receiving and transmitting claims data with adjusters in the field.

You do not have to activate PowerClaim XML to do all of this but since you are in the business to help make life better for the adjusting industry we will provide you with 365 days of free use if you just download from our website and remind me of this offer when you contact us to get authorized. The best of luck with your estimating software developing because it is a huge investment in time and money and even more luck on gaining the required market share which we found to be the hardest part but I am not the most aggressive marketing person I am sure.

Naturally PowerClaim XML is copy written but about six years ago when we publicly introduced our output as an Open Standard we pulled the copy write off of our output and printed reports to encourage standardization of an Open Standard now using the XML file structure. Our claims database(s) are not locked either because we believe an adjuster’s work produce belongs to the one that created it and not the software vendor that supplies the technology.

Most of my adjusting life in Property Claims took place in Houston as a local IA working overflow for large carriers. I can now see the large carriers purchasing this hardware and furnishing the software,  furnishing this tool to a new group of field inspectors. It will be adjusters like me, thier own employee/trainees and preferred contractors.

The cost of claims will be cut 70-50%... how.  They can get the contractor for free, as he will get the job.  The trainee will close 100% more claims with hand held computers. The local IA's will take a 50% pay cut to get the work.    Hmmm  it should also work on storms, don't you think ?
