Hi to everyone.  I just joined your forum as I have a interest in becoming a cat adjuster, so I am reading and learning all that I can.  BUT>>>>in the meantime, I am still working.....as a RV salesperson.  I can offer advice and help in a RV purchase for those who are interested.  I offer
my services not only with my knowledge in RVS but also if you are need or decide to purchase one
I am available to help you with one of the largest RV dealers in Texas.  I have sold 4 units in the last week to adjusters who are going that way.  Please let me know if I can be of assistance in any way.     You can email me and I will provide a phone number if you so desire.
Bebe

Where in Texas are you located? Also what brands you you carry. We've checked them on net and Texas has some very good pricing. Does the dealership you work for have a web site? Thanks

You are correct, I have an RV for sale, it's a 34' Class A self contained RV very nice, very clean...and I've had people tell me to raise my price that they are in demand now and I could make money.  I just don't work that way.  I've posted the ad on this site so if you hear of any one looking for an RV, mine is reasonably priced.  Good luck toya'll and God Bless You. I'm from Pensacola where we survived Ivan - I can't even imagine what it's like in MS and LA.

Getting a little frustrasted in my search for a place. Being told by hotels in Baton Rouge that the "government" has taken over their hotels? I didnt know that they could do that but thats what im told. Being told by others in Jackson Ms, Brookhaven Ms, Hammond La and Covington that the states AG's have told them not to take any reservations from "outsiders".

My solution is to purchase a new Airstream or fifth-wheel from Tri-County Truck. I'm working on an Interstate. They have about 4 or five RV's left and about 7-8 fifth wheels. They are selling them at cost. The owner wants them off the property. The only pickle is they are located in South Florida. Tell them you are an adjuster after you get your first quote!!!

Hey Jim. You have so much wisdom in insurance, and you are not able to climb ladders, I was wondering if you have been offered a desk or supervisor's job..... I thought not. Why don'y you just go to bed and wake up when this one is over????

Has anyone looked into state park campgrounds? Quite a few parks around Natchez. Full ammenity hookups, public showers, laundry facilities at many of them. Not sure what the status would be at the moment, but worth looking into.
Natchez has 50 RV slips with water, sewer, electricity for $16 a night, or Cabins that sleep 6 for like $62 a night.

Link for State Park camps in MS.. http://www.mdwfp.com/Level2/Parks/cabins.asp

Links for private RV parks MS.. http://www.rv-clubs.us/mississippi_rv_campgrounds.html#Coastal

Anyway hope this helps and wish I was out there with yall.

Glad to see you're using some wisdom and not overdoing it so soon after surgery, Flynt.  That September 20 date is coming up soon and we'll be glad to see you back in the saddle.

I have a 5th wheel and went down there and every rv park around is closed due to trees down and no water or electricity at the time.  Some are permanently closed due to the floods.  Anybody else have any luck finding any rv parks anywhere around the north shore of louisana??

Possibly have an RV available.  It sits in a driveway in Sorrento, LA (about 15 minutes outside of Baton Rouge).  It woudld stay in the driveway and can't be moved. It would hook up to house electricity and renter could tap into wireless internet.  Sleeps 7.  Has shower/toilet, stove, oven, microwave, dishes/pots, blankets, pillows, towels.  This is my mom's and I think she's asking $1k per month.  Let me know if you're interested.

Also, 4BR, 2BA house in Belle Chasse. 2100 square feet.  1/4 mile from the Belle Chasse tunnel.  Easily accessible to all of the Westbank and the ferry to Chalmette.  Full furnished and complete with all linens, pots, pans, etc.  Washer/dryer, refrigerator.  $850/week for week to week, or $3,000 per month.

If interested, e-mail me with either Baton Rouge or Belle Chasse in the subject line.

Well,  if you are interested,  I would bet that you could rent it out to adjusters at a mutually agreeable rate, take a security and/or damage deposit, and between now and the first of the year, make enough to have a nice Christmas and provide housing for some adjusters that may be sleeping in their car or truck.

You can sell the home later for what it's worth today.

Just a thought.

Jim, sounds like you're an old pro. This is my first Cat. I have an apartment in Baton Rouge, have been working T&E wind claims for two weeks or so. I am running out of claims to work, got any ideas on where to get some more claims, or when this big ball of claims might drop?

I have found lodging in a home in Thibodaux.  Other homes are available.  You need to find a way to network with residents.  Anyone looking for housing on the West bank can contact me.  I may be able to find you a bedroom in a private home for $60/day.  this seems to be the prevailing rate.

Yeah, housing could be a nightmare.  We have a duplex in Metairie (sp.?) and an apt. in Gulfport, that was a stroke of luck.

The funny thing is that when I put out the notion of a "Mobilization Expense," as a valid part of a claim estimate, since I work mostly larger losses, the other posters here acted like I might have 3 eyes or somesuch, for even considering the real need for compensating the other contractors, for the extra expense and hardship,  the logistical nightmare of rolling with a troop of 6 to 100 people that will actually be involved in putting this place back together.

Blah, blah, blah about "It won't cost any more than usual for these guys to do business."

Tunnelvision...
