Been on Delorme for yours don't pull your hair tho when your destimation is a private street. I think Delorme gets some of its data from 911 districts and they may not have these private streets. If you don't have mapping software, you are driving on three wheels.

Call me primative... I STILL map out all of my losses the night before using Delorme and print the maps, each and every day I go out and inspect. I've got the Delorme GPS rig but hardly use it.

yes i did the printing maps out the night before thing last year but with all the street signs blown down it made homes difficult to find. I bought the earthmate lt-20 gps the other day at office max and it seems to work great for what i need it for.

I see posts asking for information about the Garmin Units. I'm not a subject matter expert but, I have a Garmin Street Pilot III (now discontinued). I wasn't unaware of Delorme until I began reading the posts here. I'm impressed with the reviews. The great thing about the Garmin (don't know about Delorme) is that you can enter up to 500 addresses as way points. I zoom out, noting a group of dots - (way points) and schedule appointments without zip zagging. As soon as I visit the first way point, I delete it and push a couple of buttons telling the Garmin to direct me to the next address. The Garmin does have voice directions. The Garmin has shortest or fastest routing. You can program the Garmin to avoid toll roads and U-turns. The Garmin rests on the dash above the steering wheel. I use it on my motorcycle and in my vehicle. I recommend a GPS. If you are considering a Garmin, I suggest a 2620 or higer model number. The downside is that the Garmin's are pricey ($650-995) and the software should be updated every 2-3 years which is about $150. Cheaper Garmin units can be found on EBay, but buyer beware.

The best adjuster tool ever....the Magellan Roadmate 700. I bought one for Hurricane Charly and used it for Frances, Jeanne, Dennis. Then it was stolen from my truck & I bought a new one for Katrina. It is such a timesaver. It has a 20 Gig. hard drive with the entire U.S. already installed. Some new roads don't show up but out of 160 claims for Katrina it took me to at least 150. I paid $750 at Sams Club. Ever adjuster I've showed this to are ready to get one...

barryk, why were you missing some of the newer roads? Can the database "maps" be updated and if so how often does Magellan release an update?

Wes, I recently received and installed Delorme 2006. There are roads and streets in any city in the continental US of A that are not in the software. Why, he asks? The software is in a continual state of development and at some point must be determined as "Done". The streets and highways that were being developed or nearly completed are not in the software. If they were completed and dedicated the day after the softwared was designated "Done", they are not going to be in the program. To be current, there would have to be weekly updates to the program. And, even then it would be behind as there is a time lag between "Done" and making all the copies, packaging, distribution, mail, research, etc, etc. And, .................. I think they leave some streets out just to keep us humble.

I use Microsoft Streets and Trips. My current version is two years old and it displays roads that don't even exist yet. I am guessing that they somehow get ahold of future development plans to try and stay ahead of the game. Of course it does have the occasional missing road as well.

Does the Delorme 2006 version allow direct address import from Integri? Do any of the Garmin/ Magellan type units allow direct address importing?

I use a Garmin GPS V, cost about $330 at BestBuy It's handy and I like not having to drag a laptop with me. Plus I can still use it with MapSource on my lappy if I want, it will center my vehicle on the screen and show me roads and etc. No routing through the MapSource software though, just through the GPS. Although you could plot a route in MapSource and send it to the GPS in 5 seconds. The thing I don't like about the GPS? There's one plug on the back, and you can use one of two cables: The cig lighter power cable or the Data cable for the laptop. It didn't come with a cable to let you do both, so if you plan on plugging it into your Lappy, drop in some batteries first. AA batteries also don't last long mounted on the dash in the summer heat. From people who've road around with me, I've had about 4 chunk their Delorme and get a real Garmin GPS unit.

i am looking for a used portable GPS system. I would prefer a mountable unit, not too large. I heard about a microsoft/compaq unit that is supposedly water resiatant, I would love to get my hands on a used one, but I will actually take whatever I can get, if it gets that job done. If anyone has one or knows where to get used or refurbished units please let me know. thanks

Delorme GPS, Streets USA are no longer compatible with Integriclaim. I/C's tech support said it was Delorme's problem and they won't address it. False advertising involved here?!? Thanks a lot, I/C.

Integriclaim forgot where they started and came from. Integriclaim doesn't have a clue where they are going. And finally. Integriclaim doesn't realize the sorry state they are in. And they think Delorme has The GPS problem?? Just goes to show you how very very lost Integriclaim really is. They couldn't find their ass with both hands.

I have noticed on Microsoft Streets and Maps that the streets aren't always where they are supposed to be. Also, with the smaller towns, I've come to the realization that a little common sense is needed in finding homes. For example: a home with 8845 is listed right at the beginning of the street instead of 8 miles down the road as the address indicates. My GPS will get me to the street but then I have to actually think on my own on where to find the home sometimes. Is this a problem with all GPS and mapping software for small or disorganized towns? Just a personal note: I love streets that are numbered throughout the entire town and have to main roads where they are divided. I wish all towns organized their streets this way. Makes it a lot easier for those that aren't from around there.

There is an easy work around for porting Integriclaims onto your map program and it still works fine with Delorme or Streets and Trips. Email me and I'll give you the walk through. I/C is also great for anyone working Ms. Wind claims, very little paperwork and printing.

If cost is not a concern, the newest Magellan Road Mate is the best GPS unit out there. It is a portable unit that mounts to the windshield through a suction cup. I have use the Road Mate 700 last year and the newer 750 this year. (They now have a 800 that re-routes you when there is traffic accidents) Never had a problem finding streets along the Gulf coast working Katrina flood claims when the road signs were down. Pretty accurate when settings are adjusted to get you right to the home, even though there is only a slab. This in my opinion is an essential tool for any CAT adjuster.

Garmin 2620 is what I bought last year '04 in FL. I cannot tell you how much time it saved me. I never found an error in it until I was in MN for the hail storm in Sept. I can put in about 20 addresses look at which one is closest go there, remove that one and then go to the next closest. My favorite manuver used to be the U-turn as I passed the street I was looking for until I got the gps. Also it does not know when the street signs are blown away. I pack it on all my trips and when I need to find a restaurant, Star Bucks etc, just do a search and in a flash you are being directed to it. I know that it has paid for itself many times because of the time it has saved me in looking for an address. It is mobile, sits on the dash, and has all the streets and addresses in North America in it. I never have to load any data in.
