I went to the site mentioned earlier in this thread to report these spoof emails and I'm happy to say that the emails have slowed to a crawl... only receiving 1 - 5 a day now.

I was receiving 15 to 20 a day. I forwarded each and everyone to the email addresses listed below and reported them as email scams/fraud/or viruses. This helped to eliminate the emails completely. scams@scamdex.com, spam@uce.gov, and abuse @ (where ever it came from, ie. aol, bellsouth, etc.).com

There is a program that is free to download and use. It works great. www.lavasoft.com - Click the link in the left hand column called AdAware Personal. Works great. You know how sometimes McAfee and Symantec can't delete some items... AdAware doesn't have that problem. Here's some specs so you don't have to go to the link to read about it: Scans fixed and removable drives, memory and Windows registry Detects known and unknown variants of malware by using the Code Sequence Identification (CSI) technology Removes aggressive spyware and malicious content Takes advantage of a fully featured quarantine support Logs information about scans and malicious content removals Users of Ad-Aware Personal can efficiently remove behaviour-tracking spyware; thus protecting your privacy on the Internet Enhances your computer's performance by protecting against bandwidth stealing programs Provides greater computer security by removing keyloggers and other programs which put passwords, credit card numbers, and other vulnerable data at risk online Allows you to stay abreast of spyware, not just a step behind, thanks to the Code Sequence Identification (CSI) technology Features Languages: Catalan, English, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish File size: 6,41 Delivery: Download Requirements Processor: P166 RAM: Operating system + 24 MB Browser: Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher Operating system platforms: Windows 98/98se/Me/NT4 Workstation/NT4 Server/2000 Pro/2000 Server/2003 Server/XP Home/XP Pro/XP (Home/Professional)/XP 64-Bit Edition/Terminal Services Microsoft has one too you can download for free at Microsoft.com.

I've been using Ad-Aware for the last year or so and it is FANTASTIC! Not to mention free. I had several other systems that I'd used but Ad-Aware always caught something that they didn't so they all ended up in the Recycle Bin. I also have the Microsoft Beta System but so far it has been out done by Ad-Aware as well. Anytime your system starts to feel sluggish run it, it only takes a few minutes, and you'll see a big increase in processing time. Ad-Aware - If you don't have it - Get It!

I also run Ad-Aware religiously but the problem with these new emails is the virus is not on our personal computers. The virus is on someone else's computer that has our email address in their system.

I just downloaded the Ad Ware and it said it was free and it did run the scan free but then to quarantine what it found I had to register and it cost 19.95- says its a one time fee. The results were unbelievable and I had just downloaded my new version of McAfee last weekend and run the scans and quarantined any adware items found but the Adware found more than you could imagine..I'm very impressed. I do have a question- most of what was found said it was on c drive -cookies...if you just delete those on your computer regularly would it have done the same thing?

Ad-Aware is free. You must have downloaded the professional version that has scheduled scans and active protection. The free version does the same checks but you must manually run the scans. I will provide a link for you. Make sure you run the internet update so you have the most update protection before scanning. http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10399602.html?tag=pop

Deb They must have changed now that their name has gotten around. It used to be 100% free. As for the cookies, you can do it yourself although why go through the hassle. Cookies on your PC aren't necessarily bad.
