I had a friend (and former supervisor) ask me about what was being done with antique vehicles in the New Orleans area.  He had heard a rumor that they were being crushed and wanted to know:

1.  Is the rumor true, and if so
2.  How would one buy such a vehicle and save it from destruction.

Does anyone know the answer to these questions?

Steve, that would be sad if true. Of course salt water would be worse than fresh water but water would do limited damage to most antique cars because of no computers and ton of wiring harnesses, etc. A flush or disassembly would address most of the simple drive trains issues. Interiors are replaceable. Maybe it is just a bad rumor but hopefully someone will be able answer your question.

Here's one news article from this week on the subject. There was also an article last week in one of the Claim news journal's about a ruling passed in LA about them being totalled but I can't get my hands on the article at the moment.

Spoke with an Auto Damage Manager (via email) in LA.  Their co. doesn't have any antique vehicles but they aren't crushing anything.  That's just one company...
