Wait til you see what we found!!! Have any of you tried Sling Media's new Slingbox yet? Introducing the Slingbox™ — a groundbreaking piece of hardwired ingenuity that will literally transform the way you watch television. The Slingbox enables you to watch your TV programming from wherever you are by turning virtually any Internet-connected PC into your personal TV. Whether you’re in another room or in another country, you’ll always have access to your television Transforming Windows XP based PCs and laptops into personal on-the-go digital TVs, the Slingbox™ allows individuals anywhere-anytime access to their own living room television experience with no additional monthly service fees. Enabling consumers to watch their cable, satellite, or digital video recorder (DVR) programming from wherever they are, the Slingbox turns any Internet-connected laptop or desktop PC into a personal TV. The Slingbox redirects, or "placeshifts", a single live TV stream from a cable box, satellite receiver, or DVR to the viewer's PC located anywhere in the home. If the Slingbox is coupled with a broadband Internet connection, the viewer's live TV stream can be "placeshifted" via the Internet to a PC located anywhere in the world. We are thinking about using this instead of satellite in our new travel trailer. It's a one-time ($250) payout. Here's the link to their website: http://slingmedia.com/about/ Coooooool huh?, I have a couple of questions about it, let me know what you think about it. Thanks, Lisa

Lisa, the website states, "Now the only place you can't take your TV is the Afterlife." Do you know if they are working on that limitation?

Lisa what kind of RV did you get? We just ordered one and it should be here the 19th of this month. We are so excited. I'm going to check out several systems for our new one. We have always been totally self contained with the Motorhome and now we'll have a 5th wheel and want to be able to self contained with it also. We will check the Slingbox out. Thanks. Linloy

From the way I read the info, you have to have a broadband connection. Doesn't mention a wireless. The Verizon airless card I have doesn't always get a broadband signal. Wonder if there is way to take the signal back out of your laptop and send it to the big TV up front in the coach. With the RV out here in the country behind Larry's house I can only pick the local over-the-air stations from Biloxi and Mobile. I am suffering from ESPN-withdrawal!

Adairs in Naples without cable or satellite, says he gets 2 channels on the trailer's antenna and that one of those is the cuban channel. They did finally get the Tengo Wi-Fi antenna back up about two weeks ago so he doesn't have to go to the bookstore to check his emails and send files anymore. (I did get some author autographed romance novels out of that deal though) And he's keeping up with the Cowboys via the local sports bars. We got a 27' Cherokee Travel Trailer w/a 4' dining room slide. It's real nice, solid ash cabinets, etc., not the one I wanted but hey we got to shop a total of two days for it after Katrina hit and on the third day he was on the road. I wanted the trailer with the corner shower and vanity in it and after staying a week in it in Baton Rouge our next trailer or RV WILL have the corner shower (That battle I will win when the time comes). I think this slingbox deal might work out good so long as we can hook up with the local cable companies hi-speed wherever he's at - that or figure out a dish deal that will combine internet and tv. I do believe that there is some kind of tuner out there to transfer from laptop to tv. That's one of the questions I had about it too. We've never had or lived in a trailer before so we're learning as we go. As far as taking it into the afterlife? I am sure there's some genius somewhere working on positioning souls to line up with with the satellites or some other theory being sponsored by a government grant! lol

Most laptops and desktops have a "video out" connection you could simply plug into the "video in" of your tv, same goes for the audio. Two problems with SlingBox. You must have a very good high speed connection for the large data transfers. You have to have someone available at your primary residence for the occasional power failure or flicker that will shut all of your equipment down. The SlingBox is going to be very popular in the short future as I feel it has many uses that haven't even been considered yet.
