I have been and will continue using my Sony Mavica, til death do us part. But I found a great little camera that really fit the bill...as a backup  HP-M305. Got it a Walmart and it take great photos, with four chioces on size. VGA, 1 mp, 3 mp and a 3 mp best.  PLUS,  when it  malfunctioned  (once) I  called HP, they  sent me a new one the same day..  free  It is a great camera, small and easy to use and priced  reasonably

I like the Mavica camera's myself for a few reasons. One you can buy them pretty cheap off of eBay. Two because the camera is only 2 megapixel the file size remains low and does not need to be downsized in order to import them into our claim software. Third my camera model not only comes with the build in floppy, but also has the memory stick slot as well, so just in case I run out of disk space or disk's, I can switch over to memory stick without skipping a beat. Fourth  my vender requires all reports to be provided in PDF form on floppy besides the printed reports, so I import my pictures from the floppy into the software and then erase the floppy and save the PDF"S to the same floppy. Since the floppy is already labeled with the insured's name and claim # my work load just moves a little faster.

I too, have found the mavica to be highly dependable, but after a gritty slid off a roof, it met sidewalk with a force. couldnt put that lil humpty-dumpty back together again. Ran through Walmart & grabbed a neat lil display camera-Kodak easyshare DX4530. 5.0 mega pixels with a good zoom. I like it fine, just dont care for the 'easyshare'software. it's not as user-friendly as I was led to believe. However, it's sturdy and has managed to survive intact after a couple....alright 5 or 6 tumbles off roofs. (hey-if it's me or the equipment...bye bye equipment, hello walmarts!) BTW- that camera was $400, since it was a display model, I got it for $259.00....right after my purchase, the price dropped to $199.00.  figures.

Sony Cybershot, 8.1 mega pixels.  Love it!!!    Easy to use, big display, with on screen menu. (for these over 40 eyes) Best camera that I have ever had. It takes great videos too.

I decided to switch my digital cameras to mini-dvd camcorders/digital cameras this year due to the fact that I find it helpful to record the damage. as well as, take digital stills. I have been using my mini panasonic hi-8mm for this and transfering the recordings to an external hard-drive at the end of the day. However, I recently cracked the screen working out on a trail in Colorado (Pike's Peak's "Ring the Peak" trail). The hi-8mm made the cameras alittle bulky even though the camera as a whole could sit in you hand. The mini-dvd allow for a much slimmer design. I don't know how many adjusters record the damage during their assignments. I just find it very useful to make sure that I have included everything on my damage estimate that the Insured is entitled to. I spent a lot of time researching smaller cameras due to my other profession ( Florida P.I.). I am looking into a "ruggedize" minidvd recorder/camera. After replacing my mobile computers with Panasonic's Toughbooks and MWDU (Mobile Wireless Display Unit), I am interested in less "disposable" equipment.

For you guys still using the tried and true Mavica with floppies.  Make sure you run a floppy disk cleaner disc through the drive every once in awhile.  It will speed up your save to disc time and less disc errors.  These are available now in the dollar stores for obviously $1.00.

I have used the older Sony Mavica as many adjusters have over the years, but it's time to move on. The quality and reliability of the FD88 Mavica with floppy disc was very handy. I have now done my homework and selected the Sony DSC-T30 for several reasons. The first is size, the older Mavica was too large to be navigating a ladder and up on a roof. The new DSC-T30 is compact in size without limitations of features or quality. It has a very powerful zoom feature, sure like most it has the 3X, but when you select the 640x480 small print, your zoom extends to 14X, that's incredible. The image stabilazation will just about make every picture sharp and usable. The camera will hold many shots and the battery will last longer than most cameras. The lens is internal and not a external moving object. The rear display is one of the largest and easiest to read you can get. You will get more quiality pictures from this camera than others that I have seen. It meets all my objectives. I only wish it had a date/time stamp for pics.  File size on low setting is one of the best features,  most will be less than 90Kb,  most digital cameras today cannont achieve this small file size and you have to spend time to make the prints smaller, but PowerClaim helps solve this problem for those that use it.
