General Sherman spent alot of time in the South before the war. He was the first President of my beloved Louisiana State University (LSU). At the time all the students were military cadets. When the war started, Sherman left to join the Yankee war effort. After the war Sherman donated 2 of the cannons that fired on Ft. Sumter to LSU. They sit on the steps of the ROTC building to this day. His cadets did not follow him north and many became soldiers for the confederate side. They fought so fiercely that they were known as the Louisiana Tigers. The mascot the school proudly claims today.
