What would be the proper formula for calculating roof trusses.
Example roof is destroyed need to tear off and rebuild entire roof... replace trusses, then decking, then roofing material. In xactimate it has trusses for example $5.69 LF. What measurements do you collect and what formula should you use?

measure along bottom chord for LF, which is the span from top plate to top plate.

R and R roof framing 2x6 16" oc, $1.90 per sf.  This if from Simsol.  Just use your roof sf, and calculate. 

Ex 30 sq roof = 3000 sf x 1.90= $5700.

Long time reader, first time poster...would you allow for replacement of trusses or allow the amount to stick build the roof? thanks

I try to put back what they had. Using 2x6 roof framing may not replace the ceiling joists below. With the truss, you get the roof framing and the bottom chord of the truss replaces ( or is) the ceiling joist. The dollars may come out the same either way, but if I were reinspecting the claim, I would want to see the estimate match what was there before. If you cut out part of a truss, you usually destroy its engineered strength.

This question I am posing is because I have a test and I need a working formula trusses have been my weak point. When you say measure along the bottom chord what exactly does that mean? Then what formula do you use? Can get it done with exactimate but will have to use figures supplied by xactimate but have to work out the solution myself can only have a calculator.

Except for their math being off, follow the link to the formula.

24 on center
50 feet long, divide by two= 25
Add 1 for start=26
Subtract gable ends of 2
You need 24 of what ever the span is

Thanks traderhorn saw that in your last post and looked at that and I may be playing with my own head but what I am looking at is, a question is proposed to me as to the measurements of the roof itself and using the pricing guidelines of xactimate I am to figure cost based off LF

Xactimate Line item pricing

TR  &  Truss- 6/12 slope
+ Includes: premanufactured truss, blocking, angled end bracing, catwalk, subfascia, barge rafter, fasteners, (nails staples), truss anchors (hurricane ties), installation and labor.

Quality: S-P-f #2 and better lumber.
Note: measure along bottom chord for LF

My problem is understanding the bottom chord and I will be the first to admit I can whip together almost any framing but for some reason roof framing throws me off need a good study guide. Can compute decking and shingles vents flashing etc no problem

After you do the measurement then I assume you multiply it by the price for answer which the price on this particular example is $5.63 R and R per LF.

By the way lived in Olathe for 22 years just moved south a couple of years ago.

I have it now length of building / o.c. add one truss measure bottom chord (width of building) multiply by number of trusses. Like I said sometimes I look cross eyed at the problem.
