Not to be a smart a--, but a CPA is my software, and has worked for past 30+ years. Or knock on wood so far. But Turbo Tax is not a bad program to play with

Timothy (Tim?)- I use Quickbooks Pro to keep track of expenses and bank accounts, assets and liabilities, accounts payable and receivable, etc. Then at tax time, I turn in reports generated by Quickbooks to my CPA. This system works well for me, tho' not as well as during the years that my twin sister did all the data entry for me LOL.

Thanks Lee. I was hoping to get a positive reply from somebody. Of course a CPA is ideal,as TomS remarked, but I am a newbie and don't see that as a practical solution at this point. Hope to see you in the field one cat. By the way, I'll answer to just about anything and Timothy is my first name, but I prefer Scott, Thanks for your help. _______________________________________ Scott Allison

I have several enterprises using Peachtree, and used it on a manufacturing company I owned. I can get around in it, but it took my wife a long time to become comfortable using it. It is expensive, NON user friendley, and fine if you have a dedicated book keeper that needs to control inventory and many, many customers billing, shipping and follow up. I would not do Peachtree again. Good CPAs usually save you much more than they cost, by the way, and will keep you from audits and jail, most of the time.

I have to agree with Mr. Nichols here re: Peachtree. I've used it since June '03 and it has been challenging, to say the least. I'm actually switching to Quickbooks next month b/c I've heard that it is much more user friendly. BTW, use the accounting programs to keep track of your records but when tax time rolls around a good CPA is well worth the money spent. I've used Turbotax in the past and there is simply no comparison b/w it and the compentency of my CPA. Good luck.

I have to agree with Jack as well. From 1995 to 2000 we at HRI used Peachtree but then moved to QuickBooks Pro when we got out of the business of building computers. I saw a $99.99 special on it the other day. For those with QuickBooks Pro today in our new release of PowerClaim XML Release 16c we have added the ability to export your complete service invoice to QuickBooks Pro from inside of PowerClaim XML if you have your company in QuickBooks Pro open as well. It should be available as a beta on 4 Aug 06. The first time I saw it in a review it blew off my socks. Well I was highly impressed to say the least. Actually QuickBooks provided a developer’s kit so it is not rocket science but never the less time consuming. What was so cool is if the account for the vendor/carrier of your service bill created in PowerClaim XML is not in your QuickBooks the new account is set up automatically from the info off of your service invoice. Clearly one reason it works so well is QuickBooks provides the developer’s kit to enhance their sales. This is a great feature if you get payment in full or in part for one of your invoice so you can clearly track that. It seems that not all vendors do a great job of tracking how much and when you have been paid. Email me at gale@powerclaim.com if you like and as soon as we have the beta uploaded we will send you an email with the private beta web link so you can download it. You do not have to be a paying user. It will be the final version except for some changes to come to more completely enable PowerClaim XML (estimating software) to talk back and forth with PowerClaim Net Services, our new web based claims management system. Yes this offer even applies if you are a competitor that does “research” of the products from the other guys from time to time. :)
