Did anyone (there must have been one) who said as a child "I want to be a claims adjuster when I grow up? I fell into it myself.

When I started as an underwriter a lifetime ago, I was told I had two choices to progress to management, underwriting or field rep. then the boss paused, looked at me and said oh some people become adjusters.

Mark, That is funny. I was told by a claims manager along time ago (when I was a liability adjuster) that claims is the bastard child of an insurance company and underwriters are golden boys. Guess I never made it over to the "accounts receivable" side......lol. Unfortunately we are the necessity of premium income.

HOLY MAN A holy man was having a conversation with the Lord one day and said, "Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like.” The Lord led the holy man to two doors. He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew which smelled delicious and made the holy man's mouth water. The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful, but because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths. The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering. The Lord said, "You have seen Hell." They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the holy man's mouth water. The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking. The holy man said, "I don't understand". "It is simple" said the Lord, "it requires but one skill. You see, they have learned to feed each other. While the greedy think only of themselves. A friend is someone who reaches for your hand, and touches your heart. People say true friends must always hold hands, but true friends don't need to hold hands because they know the other hand will always be there..." "Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle."

Tejaus, great parable, I have 16 years in the insurance industry, 12 as an agent 3 as staff adjuster, now 1 as cat adjuster. So far I have found that most experienced adjusters are willing to help anyone that asks. I have many times shared my limited knowledge, taken others on ride-alongs. I have also found that for the most part, in the property side anyway, you pretty much work alone, very little interaction with other adjusters. Unlike auto where you mike work a drive-thru with 20 other adjusters. You can easily get or give advise with someone standing beside you working one another estimate. For the "newbies", don't be afraid to ask for help, this forum is a great place to find information. As with any business, knowledge is the key to success. As far as cat adjusting, I am a "newbie", but plan to be here for a long time. Now I've rambled enough, hang in there newbies, for we shall inheret the earth, or at least the scrub claims that no one else wants.
