I have heard about the industry from a friend of mine that has worked with some cat adjusters in my area, and the claims were backed by an uncle who works for State Farm. So, seeing as how I could possibly pay for 6 years of college in the matter of a couple of years (so I hear), I would definitely be interest in working under a mentor for a year come this next season (07). Could someone verify the money making aspect? And that you have to pretty much work 16 hour days for 6 months straight?

Leu,you would be extremely blessed if you could work 6 months straight. Work assignments for that long of a time is few & far between.I would suggest you read the thread entitled "How much can you really make" There is a lot of insight in that thread. This is not a get rich quick profession. It will take you several years to become good enough to make the money you are dreaming of. Even then with expenses, you will be lucky to keep 40% of what your gross income.IF you want to pay for college bad enough, there are student loans & grants. I was so poor I couldn't afford to pay attention & I found a way to finance my education. Good Luck to you & I commend you for wanting to better your education.FYI, I have been in this industry for quite some time, so what I say is not just off of the cuff.

Uh, oh....everybody be nice, now! Leu, take the prior post advice......search & read all the forums out here. In particular, go to "In over my head" and read the post by Rass. I think it was dated 9/10 or 9/11, and he posted it again today under a new thread. Look, find, think, and then decide if this is for you. P.S. Went back & looked, todays post by Rass is "They don't just hand you the keys".

Leu, if you could attend some ride along's with experienced Adjuster(s) this would be the best experience you can get, along with taking one of the many courses available, I am also a newbie, and I am finding it to be tough to "get in the door".You can plan on spending alot of money, without no guarantee.I recommend taking an Adjuster boot camp, as one of the member's ,I believe is (Trader) host from time to time.If I had it to do again I would not spend money on prelicensing first, and spend it on something giving me more input to the every day job duties of an Adjuster.Be patient spend some money on needed courses and prepare to e-mail alot of resumes to every IA vendor with a opening(s) and wait, wait, wait.

ORIGINAL: gordon1 racko-I was being nice-honest,but nice Yes, you were Gordo, but my post wasn't pointed at you...I was just trying to shoo away the wolves in the wait, mainly that one guy (I think his name is Jud ) !! Kinda funny, isn't it, how the same questions come up under different headings from the "candidates" every week. They find this site from their pals, but their pals don't guide them. Oh, well.

I want to go on the PGA tour. I hear they make a lot of money. Do I need to learn to golf first? Should I take a golfing course at a golf school? Is there a book I can read and learn how to do it? Maybe if I ride along with a pro golfer for a few days?

Since I have been to schools to be a catastrophe adjuster, no call outs have been in my life. I was wanting you all to give me the name of a 3 day school as an auto all lines adjuster were I could use my prior training course's and license as auto accidents occur every day in the large city I live in. Thanks in advance please give me your cell phone also as I have some other questions also. Like how much can you make, how many hours and days to make a good living, when you can expect your first paycheck etc.

I was kind of wondering if that was the case. I'm getting tired of this whole dead end $12/hr job. I've got plans. Big plans. Big vision. And I can only get someone to listen to me if I've got a college degree (somehow an idea isn't good enough....). So umm..... what's this secret handshake?

Got a PM from a candidate for auto training wanting to know how much credit I would give him for basic and advanced x-mate training at the feet of one of the best. My best deal would be 1 1/2 chapters on comparative negligence which is a full 3 chapters that takes 5 days.
