Correction-yebolu's post was also productive, but appeared as while I was away writing my post.

I have joined Claims Mentor for my own betterment as a professional and reccommend it to any new IA.  The Mentor/Mentee is quite productive.  My 1st assignment was astonishingly focused because the forums and posts were without any berading and it enabled me to stay on task and get straight to the facts.  But, it is designed for that specifically.  BTW, one of the questions addressed this very issue about resumes'.  Both sides of the fence need to use a weed eater to the "BS" and address the issue of openess and clarity.  It is appropriate for an applicant or sub contractor to want additional information addressed as well as it is appropriate for the employer or contractor to expect the response to be one's best face or demonstration of simple professionalism.

MRichardson, just today I had to download att/yahoo self help software to get my outlook express enable to send out email without going through yahoo mail online.  I feel your frustration on that IT problem of not being able to respond to email.

I can not imagine anyone applying for a job  (any job) without  a resume, and  a brief cover letter summarising qualifications and saying why he/she is the best person for the job (no bull but the meat and potatoes).
I read a cover letter yesterday which briefly said something like "but what makes me the best candidate for this position is not so much my credentials (and the credentials were impressive) but rather my passion for mentoring. I am unwavering in my belief that the most rewarding duty of a seasoned claims professional is to help develop new talent." This person was applying for a trainer position with a big company. Her cover letter was enough to get my friend (HR Director) to immidiatly read the resume.
Having said this I can not imagine any professional posting a position (any position) without giving the particulars of the assigment or job.  Lets face it packing matters. If you don't believe me go to you local Mall and look around. Guaranteed that the most expensive products have the best packaging. Perhaps the quality is not there but the looks will spark the interest.  Just my two cents (no I did not respond to the add).

TIGER, I sent out a .pdf letter to those who had the curtesy to send a resume with their first email, said letter setting out rate of pay, auto, etc. Further, these files came to me directly from the carrier who I have had many years of a working relationship with, so I truly don't know who they had the files originally with, it was not me. My fault too I'm guessing was assuming that an adjuster wanting any work, either 18 or 1800 files, would have to be told to send a resume outlining your qualifications in order to be considered.

DAVIDR, the error in the emails was not on getting them, it was on my end in replying to them, so that aspect was all on me and no one else. For some reason my yahoo would not allow me to respond, which is why I wrote several reply's from my main server, again that end of it is totally on me. Hope that clears that up for the people I did elect to write to and provide the compensation and other info for.

Thank you all for your input.

I sent my resume and I did not receive the .pdf response, memtioned.

I only gave my cell phone number, so I could get more information on the assignments. I don't think it was written to warrant my full history or resume. I wouldn't send that information until I had all the employers information anyway. Have a great day ya'll.

I have an updated resume with references from 2 vice presidents of Florida insurance companies READILY available........along with copies of my adjuster's license, driver's license, auto insurance card, W-9, articles of incorporation, occupational license, certificates of insurance for worker's compensation and general liability coverage, proof of registration as an appointing entity in Florida and continuing education compliance. I have done work for several large IA firms and receive direct claim assignments from several large insurers that NEVER once requested a resume. On the other hand I had ONE carrier request copies of all of the adjusters that I utilize. I sent them the resumes AS THEY REQUESTED.

What I don't have is patience for a hypocrite who chooses to pontificate in this forum as to what he deems unprofessional according to his self imposed standards.

"Need person to finish up 18 storm files in Florida. They are in the Ft. Myers area and are Hurricane Wilma origin. These have come in late due to owners being out of country and previous adjuster failing to follow up.
Payment will be based on an hourly rate and paid upon completion of adjustment, not when the file is paid!
Please help as I cannot go to Florida from Maryland for just 18 files.
Thank you,
Mike Richardson "

I May have misinterpreted the above post!  It seemed to me as if this person had 18 files that they for whatever reason needed finished. "Needed finished" indicated to me that they were started and needed to be completed.  I interpreted the post to be from a fellow adjuster who was in a predicament and was practically begging for some help from someone in the Fort Myers area. The "Please Help" part led me to read some amount of desperation.  I never interpreted this post as an offer of employment from an actual company that required regimented employment application procedures ie.(resume, sample file, cover letter). I read the post and actually based on my read, I thought well maybe I could help this fellow adjuster out of a bind.  I reside in the Naples/Fort Myers area. I have been deployed in Louisiana for the past year and have plenty of work and am happy with my vendor relationships and am not looking for a job. I emailed Mr Richardson from a position of kindness and helpfulness. I have access to some Florida Licensed adjusters that may have been happy to help out and that was what I had offered.  I cannot tell you the disappointment I felt today when I read the post that MRichardson left seeming to berate the quality of responses to his post.  I at first felt as if I had been played in a little experiment to check and report on responses to a post for employment.  If I was honestly looking for a job and not genuinely trying to be compassionate and helpfull to one of us in need, trust me I would have sent the prerequisite documents supporting my ability to handle the work.  I also never received a reply from Mr Richardson other than what I consider a slap in the face in the form of a snide posting about the lack of quality in the responses to his plea for "HELP".  Let me ask this.  If you were broken down on the side of the road and were asking for help and I stopped, would you later complain about the way I stopped or the manner in which I offered to help?  Your behavior is not appropriate, but I will try to remain a person that always looks for the good in people and always offers help when possible even though there are people that will find fault in your good intentions.

Respectfully

Craig Halye

MRichardson

You created this mess when you ask for help and then publicly ridicule the fashion in which that help was presented to you.

I hate to beat this to death, but since I sent an email with my cell number I feel I have an obligation to answer. I am only about 1 1/2 hours away from Ft. Myers working on claims. I am fairly busy but would go out of my way to help anyone out of a bind. I guess I read to much of a plea for "help me" into the post.

Unfortunately, the next time someone posts a similar plea for "Please help me.", everyone that reads this thread will think twice before answering. I did not take it as a formal request for a resume. My resume is posted on Cado for the whole world to see. My cell is always in my pocket for a quick answer.
Mike did not tell anyone how we know for certain that the worker would be paid. Too many threads about Know before you go have soaked in on a few people.

I did not read the post, but have caught up on the fallout. It seems like a broker deal to me. 18 claims will have a finders fee skimmed off the top.  The person in control knows good pro,s in Ft. Myer. If he passed on Russ something is fishee.

yikes, thread's getting out of hand/ post deleted.

I think I said it the other night somewhere...sparks will fly when you throw another log on the fire.   Only thing is, the original poster was the log thrower, and this should have never been a fire big enough to roast a marshmallow.
