I have a water loss that I need some help with. A pipe burst under the kitchen sink and water leaked throughout the house. The kitchen cabinets sustained some water damage. There are a couple of warped boards with one very small sections that needs to be replaced. Rather than replace the entire granite top cabinets, I am going to repair the damage, and relaminate the cabinets and doors so they match. I have a price for repairing the damaged boards, but have not been able to determine a price for relaminating the cabinets and doors. The cabinets are about 17 lf. Does anyone have any pricing suggestions? Thank you,

I'll assume thermafoil for refacing -- smooth white or antique white (slight grainy look): should run about $95 to $105 per lf. Have the insured get a couple of estimates from local cabinet companies/contractors. Their reface estimates should fall within those guidelines but if a little more (doors and drawer fronts) pay the difference when completed. (I sold cabinets/reface jobs to condo and home owners after Ivan.)

Use the replace price for the bottoms, and remove and replace for the countr tops. let the policyholder make the determination weather to reface or replace.

If you are going to detach and reset the countertop, what about the sink and disposer? There might be a minimum drywall and paint, and a small piece of water compacted insulation if the sink is on the outside wall. You don't pay for the burst pipes....just the resulting damage, right? How about anti-bacterial spray? RandyC

Thank you, If this was a pipe under the sink, there may have been spray to the side panels and the 2 cabinet doors, and then flow that damaged the kickboards to the remainder of the cabinets. Is the countertop around the sink involved at all? If so, you might have tile/wallpaper backsplash to consider, but it doesn't sound like it. Seems like your only question was on pricing for some doors/refacing, and Action's figures sound on target but we don't know what quality you are looking at.

Thank you, everyone, for your assistance. I do appreciate it. quote:

The countertop is granite and did not sustain any damage.

You will not be able to remove and reset the granite counter top without damaging either the granite, tile, painted, wallpapered back splash area. There are a few cabinet companies that now support the granite in place with 2x4's and pull the cabinets out from underneath. If you remove and reset the counter top (granite) you have a 90% chance of chipping or cracking or separating a seam and then you will owe for it. If you have a formica counter top with any age on it you will not be able to pull the sink without damaging the surface. I always estimate to replace formica counters and backslash's up front and remove and reset granite until such a time as it becomes damaged.
