I have a Stapleton, Telesteps and a 22 ft Little Giant.

I like the stability of the Stapleton (3 fold and extension, for 16 ft), and use the Telesteps for interior attic access and (safe) double pulls.

In retrospect, the 17 ft Little Giant is lighter and probably better overall than the heavy 22 ft model. But it is a stable, rugged ladder. I don't like the looks of the welds and hinges on the knock-offs. I've always tried to buy quality.

Be very careful on these roofs. Watch for leaves, debris and escape holes...not to mention antenna guy wires, powerlines, etc... I recommend against shingle surfing to the eave line.

If no other access is available, consider renting a large ladder for a few days.

Be safe!

Dale

I use the Krause ladder.  I'm a large competitor (245) but feel completely safe on it -- IF -- i am the one that opens and closes it.  Last time a customer touched it trying to "help me load my stuff" -- i had a  "ladder failure" on the very next house.   Ouch.   I fold my own every time now

I can certainly tell you which ladder I would never use again.  It was a Werner (Little Giant) knock-off.  First of all it weighted way to much, secondly it was next to impossible to open up and lock into position and then next to impossible to fold back up. I was on one claim an extra hour just fooling around with this "hunk of junk" ladder.

I'm looking for something that folds easily for a trunk and is light weight? I'm a small woman, so I need a better mouse trap than the men. Any suggestions?

I have used the Telestep ladder for two years now. This year purchased a 300 lbs rated Telestep and used for Katrina, Rita and Wilma. Not one problem. Best, lightest and quickest ladder to use to get on roofs.

My telesteps is rated at 225#.  Where and when did you get yours rated at 300#?

Larry-

I've been looking at the 225# telesteps. Do you recommend it?

I have used the Telesteps Model 1205 (rated for 250#) since 2002.  During Katrina one of the end caps began to fall out and, eventually, some of the plastic cylinders broke.  I found out a bit too late that you could replace them.  It hasn't affected the ladder's stability -- just makes me nervous; so I ordered the same model as a replacement.  While I was waiting for delivery one of my insureds, who is an adjuster, let me try her Wide Step Pro (rated for 300#).  It was great!

When the replacement ladder arrived it was defective.  Some of the rungs didn't stay locked.  (Scary doesn't quite cover it!!  After scaling the ladder one of the lower rungs would give out!!)  My order was placed through R.E.Williams.  (Their web site is:  http://www.rewci.com/tellad.html).  They let me return my defective ladder and I exchanged it for the Wide Steps model.  It's great.  It's only about 5 pounds heavier than the other one and the steps are a bit wider.  I keep my old ladder in the trunk and now use it for double pulls only.

Anna,
Get the best ladder that you can carry.
At present, I'm using a Cosco 17ft ladder from Sam's.  It's a clone of a Little Giant and has been very stable and trouble free.  It's a little heavy but it's worth it to me.

 All,

Home Depot has a ladder called the Xtend & Climb, rated at 300 lbs, on their website. They also have the 225 lb model.

The link is www.homedepot.com

Okclarryd,

I got my Telesteps from REWilliams, Amber below has the web site link.

I have never had a problem with the Telestep ladder. Just like everything you do out here, SAFETY comes first and I always check to see if the ladder is locked and engaged when fully extended.

I would recommend this ladder to everyone.

Larry- Thanks for the input. Great choice for a ladder at a good price. Cosco 17' is $102.87. Sam's is the place. Also, MDC, Sam's has the TeleSteps for $176.87

I use the Telesteps 300# 12.5 '. It worked great for me up and down all day with never a problem. I always extend it and give a good shake to make sure it is locked. Never "let me down" so to speak.

What is the best ladder for doing a double-pull on a two-story roof?  I have a Krause ladder with the red tabs that has not collapsed and I have both of the Gorilla ladders from Home Depot.  The telescoping ladders have the bottom rung too low to stradle the first-story ridge row in order to gain access to the second story.  I would like to have a ladder that had straps or something so that it could be carried on your back.

I've used the extend and climb and went back to the Telesteps. The telesteps is easy to carry, operate and use.
