Clayton as you noted, today the examiner can import live claims data and create revisions after a manual review when using the same platform yet there is nothing to stop the examiner from just reviewing the same estimate directly from the screen but that may have been what you meant by a “manual” review. It would be a “low-brainer” to set up a management tool to check for price anomalies outside of ‘standards”. As an example during a storm a carrier could decide $200 is the going rate for 25 year 3-tab off and on but would like to allow some flexibility so the examiners could close files faster by approving a range from $185 to $215 without a hold being put on the file for adjuster input or the examiner to read the adjuster’s line item comments. This could let many files be processed fast. The scanning for scoping errors would be trickier just like it is trickier than pricing issues for a human examiner but software could be set up to scan and flag if a hot water heater showed up on a hail claim or some type of roofing material that was selected by a miss click by an adjuster that was not expected for that region but the pricing range feature could catch roofing material types of issue. With time and money about anything is possible with software. I think like that has happened in other industries many years ago that the claims handling vendors will start to seek to operate more in the interest of truly reducing claims handling cost for carriers without focusing on turf control with locked proprietary claims formats. Technology can be used to limit or enhance freedom. Look at what Sam Walton created by using technology to drive out wasted distribution cost

I prefer Simsol for it's ease of use and ability to allow me to get my work done quickly. I don't understand why companies want you to use one program over the other since you aren't sending them the file in a format that would allow them to download it into their software program. All reports are usually sent via PDF or by hard copy all of which can only be utilized for review. If they want to check your work, then they will have to input it which is a waste of their time and money. Maybe if you provided them with multiple user licenses at a good price, then they would be more inclined to switch. I know from a managers standpoint that switching software is difficult especially some old timers that refuse to give up their old ways. You can teach an old dog new tricks, but first you need to change the treat for the trick. Tired the others and they just don't compare to the ease of use.

Shadow, what companies are leeting you use Simsol for their claim assignments. I have been using Xactimate for over ten years and they about to price me out of using their program. One thing I like about Simsol is the D.T.I. Replacement Cost contents base. However I do not want to install Simsol as my only estimating program on my notebook and get to a cat office and find Simsol is not acceptable.

This is my 2nd reply. Somehow, your program did not get along with my computer. All I had to do were Flood contents lists and in the end, I went to "word" and "excel" because of the aforementioned "glitch". Your support people were supportive but no solution was found.

Just a quick note... I HATE Exactimate. I find it to be the least user friendly, most in-efficient, and most lacking program. There is a reason I and several adjusters switched to Simsol a few years back. I prefer Simsol, but with some opportunity, would consider other applications as long as they are not called Exactimate. If there ever was a program to turn profit into loss, in a CAT situation, it is this one. Nuff said. I feel better now!

Very interesting thread... Hi everyone, my name is Rod Theoret and I'm new to this newsgroup (just joined it actually) and like John I am very interested in hearing what the user community is interested in, need and also frusterated with. As you might have already guessed, I'm with a software vendor (mobile claims management) called Symbility Solutions and I will be adding a fresh new perspective to some of these disucssions by positioning our transaction based pricing and our innovative solution based on real time mobile computing. I'm not going to turn this into a marketing pitch but since we're relatively unknown to this newsgroup (I have not seen any discussions about symbility yet) I will say that I am looking forward to engaging in various discussions/debates and introducing our solution that was built from the ground up (designed, tested, pilotted) back in 2002 and went General Availability this past May!!!
