All of us who have been doing this for awhile have a few stories that fall into the category of "Just Plain Weird". Today I came across a story in the Mobile (AL) Register. Rather than reprint the story, I'll just give you the gist of it: In Baldwin County, Alabama, a curfew was in effect last Monday because so many people had left under mandatory evacuation orders. Anyone who remained was ordered to be inside by 9 pm in unicorporated areas of the county. Deputies patrolling the area saw flashlights moving around in a field and set up surveillance. When four men attempted to leave the area, they were stopped by the deputies. It seems they had been out mushroom hunting after dark in someone else's field. The driver was charged with driving under the influence and violation of curfew. The other three were charged with public intoxication and violation of curfew. They may also be charged with trespassing. Anybody up for some felony mushroom picking by the light of the moon? Let's hear some of your bizarre storm stories.

2003, Isabel I knocked on my insureds door to scope their damage when a very beautiful and very nude woman answers the door. After I managed to close my mouth, I immediately thought to myself "setup" and asked the lady to please put something on so we could continue the inspection. She became angry and advised me that clothes were not worn in her home. Not only was she, her husband, and their 19 year old daughter nude, but she said that if I was to enter her home she would appreciate it if I would disrobe as well. After much coaxing she finally allowed me to complete the inspection with only my shoes off. Then while going over the scope at the kitchen table we were joined by her husband and daughter(still nude). That has got to be the strangest inspection I have ever been on, bar none!

I can only assume that your inspection was thorough and all measurements accurate......I also assume that you documented all with the proper amounts of photos!!!!!! You know, some people have all the luck............

I checked out 'Insurance Claims by Nudist Family' on Snopes.com; of course this is a hoax which has been perpetuated on the internet for at least 38 years! __________________________________________________ Actually, Kevin- here's a carrier you may want to work for: http://www.fcn.ca/insurance/home_and_auto.html

On the internet for 38 years? That must have been back when Al Gore invented it... I have heard that story too, but the Univac I was working on was back then only into 0's and 1's. Good story, though. Improves with the telling.

I was working a flood and hail event in Peoria, Illinois in 1980 when a flood loss to a rental house came in about 3-4 weeks after the water receeded. It was summertime and probably in the 90's everyday. I got the claim and traveled to the property that has been closed up after the tenant hauled out all their stuff right after the water left the house. Had probably 2-3 feet of water inside during the flood with the associated mud flow and the house had that thick shag carpeting (from the 70's) throughout. I was doing the inspection w/o the insd and when I opened up the door, needless to say the mold had been growing fulltime for the weeks the house was closed up. It was pretty bad, but what really caught my eye was that throughout the main living room and a few other areas there was a regular crop of plants growing out of the mud covered saturated thick shag carpeting. We are talking literally hundreds of plants at about 1' tall and that was all there was in the house. Turns out that the prior tenants liked to smoke pot in the house, dropped a lot of the seeds on the carpeting and apparently weren't real diligent about their vacumming habits. The combination of the heat inside the house, the mud and moisture staying in the thick shag carpeting and the windows not being covered by curtains, etc caused the seeds to germinate and grow fairly well. This is back in the days we reported claims direct to NFIP. I took a couple shots of the crop, sent into the the claim examiner and suggested the potential for "salvage" if they wanted get some return on indemnity dollars. Like any good adjuster, we always need to look for salvage and subro opportunities anywhere we can find them.

In 1965 Betsy hitNew Orleans and I was a staff adjuster sent to work losses. We had many Homeowners in the garden district. We also had many many tenant houses in downtown. About 3-4 or four roofing contractors would do repair work on the natural slate roofs on the big expensive houses that had slate missing. About 6-10 of the large carriers with lots of exposure got togather and selected a contractor of our choice and had them warehouse and store "our slate" that we salvaged off the tenant houses and needed to repair the expensive mansions. The color was "Georgia peachstome", tan, black, shades of blue and green. We bartered and borrowed from the "warehoused" stock piles to make a perfect match. We kept some loose books, and sold the salvage next spring to the roofers when we left.

Great retort! I'm laughing my ass off. Haven't heard the term Univac in years. Proves we're in the same age bracket. A lot of prople who read your post will not have a clue what you're talking about, or think it's some type of vacuum cleaner.
