yumadj, You Must Be Certified each year in one of the all day seminars/workshops. The small mini workshops offered at storm sites is a different matter. The person that checked you in at the workshop should of requested a copy of the confirmation letter rcvd back from NFIP. If you rcvd. the forms showing you attended the workshop there is a possiablity records can be corrected. Please feel free to contact me and I will offer you any help I can in the matter.

Darryl, Fast flowing water can & often does cause structure damage. Many homes in the south are built-up and designed to withstand volicity flow from flood waters. l Slow rising water is often water that can stick around for days. During the years I have seen looses with water that sat in houses for up to 10 days at approx 2 ft. mark, thus the wicking had gone up to the 6 ft. mark. Walls and ceilings were covered w/ mold. Since the client could not enter the home to mitigate damages the damage was excessive. So much depends on the lenght of the time the water remains w/in the home and how quickly it receeded. In WV, Ohio & PA many of the homes were major losses last year that seen slow rising water that depositied up to 14 inches of river mud within the homes. Some of these homes were hit twice within 10 days. Even though the river was involved the volicity flow was not the damaging factor. Out of approx 263 we serviced last year I only seen major damage to one home & two garages from volicity flow. We did see major, major damage in 141 homes due to water which receeded slowly and had about 15 that could not be saved due to the long term damage from flood water that did not receed for days, not once but twice. Each type of flooding has it own dangers.

OK, that's why I said generally and structurally. Each claim is a living entity, my statement is based on my provisos and experience. Yes, some rising water claims are worse than moving water. I still have found, in the past, more structural damage from moving water than rising water.

Does anyone know of a class anywhere between FL and Texas scheduled in the near future that give NFIP certification? It seems to me that with all the flood claims that are coming in that the Government or someone else would schedule a class for those of us who are not NFIP certified.

charles, from what i've heard FEMA is allowing adjusters to either take a quicky class during orientation with the vendor or insurance company (they gave away the answers to the quiz) and some experienced adjusters arent being required to get the certification at all. if you are experienced dont let the flood certification hold you back.

We work both wind and flood. We got very few claims working Ivan that did not have both claims. Flood has lots more paperwork but we love it!!! I don't climb roofs but Hubby does. We work very much like Kelly and hubby. Works great for us. READ THE POLICY everyday until you know it backward and forward. I absolutely loved it when we got a call (not for Hubby) but for me from an adjuster friend that has been working commercial, wind and flood asking me what the policy said about filing proof of loss. That reminds me also, BREIFINGS at Cat Sites are very important to Flood Adjusters and like Kelly said Get the Directives and read them. I check frequently and print them for our FLOOD Notebook. Referred to them many many times during Ivan. Flood is not for everyone.........ride with a flood adjuster in NO and you very well may change your mind. Hubby like wind, I like Flood, works for us. We also had an awsome woman train us, so we have been very fortunate. Good Luck all......we will eventually see you in LA, MS or AL but for now we are happy to be in Melbourne. (maybe, depends on Ophelia) LOL

JPD There is another thread that addresses flood cert. Don't know what the header is. Your entire answer will be within the post that Darryl (w/Worley) has spelled out. Good luck. -Doppler
