LOL I love it , expose the carriers that defraud the consumers I will be tuning in to 20 - 20 for a good comedy program. As I said before, these insurers hate Public adjusters but the way they treat the insured no wonder there are so many PA's. I am willing to bet if a big storm hits Florida this year there will be many more represented claims due to the last 2 years of insureds going through the ringer...

I didn't believe it when I first read the post but here's the link to the story on ABC news: http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2006/08/state_farm_insi.html Having worked there 28 years- I still don't believe this is the accurate story but looking forward to seeing more details on the show tonight.

I don't believe it either. There would be no benefit to a company like State Farm risking everything by commiting fraud. They may have lost some profit over the last few years but they still made tens of millions if not hundreds in revenue/profit. I won't say that some individual department/office/division or what have you may get caught doing something unethical to doctor and make their books look better but State Farm as a corporation would not be involved in or risk insurance fraud. There would simply be no point or reason for it.

Looking forward to watching how this plays out. I hope these two are not just looking for a little attention. And, I hope that SF was not really doing business that way. I guess we will have to wait and see.

OK, lets remember this. Most of the general public does not know the difference between the insurance company and the claims company. Many of the IA's are not even sure. I wonder if it was the insurance company or the claims company. This would make a major difference. I know of numerous adjuster who walked from one of State Farms claims companies over the claims company changing estimates after the IA submitted them for review. When these people [claims companies] can access our electronic data and change at will it becomes a dangerous situation. I send myself a copy of all files I submit to the claims company for my safety. With this last season I purchased myself a small hard drive and downloaded each claim I submitted. I also printed a pdf file and put it on the hard drive. The hard drive is now placed securely on my system at home that is set up on a surge protector. I trust the companies I work for and this is what I do. Can you imagine what I would do if I was working for someone I did not trust. When someone tells me they work for an insurance company I ask what company name is on the paycheck they recieve. This is one way to know for sure if they are a company employee. Sure am glad I choose not to be part of the Big Red team years ago.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2006/08/state_farm_insi.html#comments 117 comments on the ABC blog so far- including mine..the 3 by long term former employees all have same opinion..that they wouldnt do this. I cannot imagine in my wildest dreams that this could be true about their claim handling procedures. Does anyone know these two independents or what adjusting firm they were with? This is the very kind of thing I would think would push carriers over the edge and back to the point of not using Independents again like in the days I recall we weren't allowed to even request Independent assistance due to prior problems. It runs in cycles....hope this doesn't swing it back to the point of increasing staff claim personnel and reduce the use of independents.

I worked State Farm assignments for Ivan in Alabama, Katrina in Louisiana and Wilma in Floirida and I never saw them treat any insured unfairly. The only time I was asked to lower an estimate was when I used the wrong code (pol+ instead of pol-) for a pool inclosure.

I don't know the facts here, but suspect that if it was State Farm people it wasn't sanctioned or they thought they had good reasons for doing what they did.. I also suspect that whatever the reason, that ABC will color it the worst that they can. ABC can maim, twist, edit and delete interviews, cut off responses, take out of context etc all for its own benefit (ratings). They have done many times. Watching it feeds the frenzy. You have to remember these are professional TV people who have agendas and know how to portray what they want you to believe. I won't waste my time tonite with ABC.

Stormdame... Great advise on backing up your work, but may I suggest checking out a flash (or jump) drive, It's is a great way to go to keep your work in a smaller place than the HD. Plugs into your USB port and you can copy all your files to it. Portable, easy to use and can hold an enormous about of data. Just a thought that might help! ~M~

Even if proven NOT TRUE, I remember going through an incident like this back in CA in late 80's early 90's when another adjuster who had been fired had gone to the press. There was a huge frenzy with the initial reports but it faded in time. The problem was the nightmare it caused for all of us working claims...folks would have the articles cut out and waiting for you at the appointment and the minute they didn't like a coverage decision, they would flash the article. It makes it very difficult for the other adjusters trying to do the right thing in the field and the complaint ratio at the time was unbelievable.Hang in there if your going out with them this year- it will pass.
