Small hail and lots of it. Small hail hits on the comp roofs (this is a down on your hands and knees type of inspection storm)... lots of small dents in aluminum siding. Lots of roofers...lots of signs in the yards...neighboritis running wild..lots of roofers...lots of roofs being bought (???) Lots of roofers. Most seen comment on loss docs: "All my neighbor's are getting roofs" Anyone else up here want to share their experiances drop me an e-mail... Sorry if this rambling in incoherent --- I am tired. Shouldn't I be resting up for the big "Cane"???

I am an estimator for a roofing company in the Kansas City Metro Area and we had baseball sized hail in the southwest part of the city. Lots of damage from this hail however we are getting calls all over the city to check for hail damage. Many homes have little or no damage but are being totaled by insurance companys. We use the Haag criteria to asses hail damage. Any one know why there is such a drastic difference in assessing damage. I have been out on a few duplexes that one side was totaled and the other was not even close. What is going on? |

It's really very simple...a paid claim takes a lot less fighting than a denied claim when a trainee or incompetent adjuster handles the file. Lack of people skills and proper training are key factors. Also, for the 'run & gun' types out there, they pay and close and get paid for as many as they can, then leave before the reinspectors close them down.
Members in good standing of a professional association would never tolerate this kind of job performance. |

I work as an Independent here locally in the Kansas City market. We have been extremely busy since the May 4th tornadoes. Followed by hail at the Lake of the Ozarks (150 miles away), then the June 22nd hail storm in Johnson County Kansas. Lots of steep, two story wood roofs. Although we are now getting lots of re-inspections, local roofers generally fair. Some out of town companies have set up and some local contractors have "sold out" to out of towners.
Thankful for the work, hope all get some soon! |

Small hail in Columbus? Better get your eyes checked! Not only did the Hail Storm produce 2 inch hail it's covered the largest area I seen in a hail storm in a long time! |

Thanks for the replys. I can understand how difficult it must be for an adjuster to tell a homeowner that their roof has very little damage when there are roofs being replaced up and down their street. I have to spend a lot of time explaining why I have found no damage on their roof yet their neighbors got a new roofs. It would be much easier if there was more consistency. |

Thiers really no consistency in the market as a whole and even with in most insurance companies, so I've come to the conclusion that it's all really just subjective in regards to each adjusters opinion and experiance. So do not blame the contractor for signing them up, cuase you never know if the adjuster is just gonna buy or deny! |

It doesn't matter how consistent an adjuster or a carrier is in their opinion of hail damage because roofs themselves are not consistent. A 20 year old 5/12 220 comp roof is going to get a heck of alot more damage in a straight down hail storm than a brand new 10/12 30yr dimensional roof. These two roofs could be next door to each other and the old one is totaled and the new one looks untouched. I've seen it more than once and for some reason it always seems that the undamaged roof is my claim. |

Something is out of wack. In your example the other adjuster makes more $$ for less work and injury peril, than you. |

I guess it depends on your fee schedule. If the roof was the only thing damaged on the 5/12 and there was nothing at all damaged on the 10/12, I would still make more money on the 10/12 even if I didn't pay a dime. (base charge vs base plus steep charge) It isn't alot more money but it is more. |
