My mentor emailed me some advice to me what do you think about this:

hey if you do get a call to go then ask for an advance of $2000.00 If a company is serious about giving you claims they will not hesitate to give you the advance. Get hold of the alternative claim company and ask for an advance, see what happens.

Also has anyone heard of Art Boyle Claims? Would like to know before I go.

"Art Boyle Claims", a.k.a. Boyle International; now there are a few words that make my white hair bristle. I think I mentioned this on the previous page or two of this thread.

Anyway, I can tell you straight up that he owes me (and others) a chunk of money from a couple of years ago, and that chunk of money owed was paid to him by the carrier that confirmed that directly to us.

I got tired of chasing it, I got tired of the BS and hard luck stories; wrote it off as a bad debt on the books.

Clayton Carr is my real name, and this is a true story.

To the honorable Mr. Carr....would you mind posting this in the "watch who you work for thread?" We need to keep that one alive and on top of the screen.

For those interested in SE Va work my experiance is that a lot of policys are written through Hartford and the AarP Program for retired people. Their work is handled by reid, Jones out of charlotte. Good fair company to work with.

I have a question, odd as it may be....I have a company that I do a tremendous amount of daily assignments for in the off season and a considerable amount of clean up work for in the after math. They have offered me the opportunity to work this storm on a guaranteed daily wage of $795 a day. I am use to working assignments on a "per piece" basis and do not see this as a good opportunity. On the other hand, I have not been in the middle of an actual CAT, just been there to pick up the left overs and problem children. Any insight on this would be appreciated.

Vendors should come up with a list of questions to ask newbies and oldies when considering them to be on their standby list. They might start with these.

"Have you EVER worked a claim before?"

"Do you have a bumper sticker on your truck that says
TURN'M AND BURN'M?"

"What is your real name?"

"Name ALL the states in which you are convicted felon?

Good luck. Its a concrete jungle out there!

Bob, that is a tough one, as there are so many unknowns.....If you are there for the duration AND get cleanup, it might not be that bad, you will probably out gross a lot of the ones in and out....it will take longer to do so, but depending on your personal life, your commitment from them by keeping you busy for the rest of the year is a key component here. Too many people establish relationships during slow non-CAT times and bolt for a one month storm, more often than not burning a bridge. Think long term. If they keep you busy, that is a hard fact to ignore. Just one opinion. Hope to see you out this way!!

I don't think Bob is posing this question as an either/or? Unless I am missing something, his question is whether $795 per day is fair compensation or whether he could make more money with this or some other vendor on a schedule.
If I am wrong Bob, please let us know. That is one of the better day rates I am aware of and I hear there is a lot of cow pasture and windshield time down in Eastern NC and Virginia, so it might be better than a fee schedule if the damage is light.

Bob, is that your cut or does the vendor take 35% of that? If it's your cut and depending on the # of claims they expect you to do in a day that isn't bad. If it's the gross and you only get 65% of it and they expect you to do 7 a day for that I'd look elsewhere.

BOB, Although I am a new adjuster, my mentor and I worked the Dallas Hail Storm this year, he was on a 480.00 a day pay. He lives in Tyler, an hour away. After it was all over we figured out the quantity of claims times a typicalcal pay schedule, and it came out that he could of made almosr twice as much. Only why he took it was he didnt have cost of living. It my understanding that you can make even more working a hurricane. But i'll let the seasoned adjusters comment on that.

It all depends on wether or not the $795 is total day rate or your take. Also, Tyler is only an hour away from Dallas if you drive 100mph

Hey guys, thanx for the info!! The $795 is what I would gross per day. I don't belive that it would be a long term assignment(year long). They have gauranteed me 4 weeks, with the possibility of more. I am trying to take into account travel to and from (approx 3000 miles, cost of living (not to mention availability), and the logistics of receciving assignments and reporting (with all of the electricity and phones being down). I am still kicking it around, I have also been givent the opportunity from 2 other companies to run the dailies (on a per piece basis) for the their staff adjusters that are already enroute to the coast. I may be able to make more AND sleep in my own bed every night!! Just like everyone else here, I am doing some math before I make my decision.
