Mark, the total of all claims for Hurricane Andrew was 700,000 claims, according to the PCS of the III.
Do you really think Isabel will generate 2/3rds of the Andrew totals? Just a guess of course, but my guess would be around 100,000 to 150,000 claims or less (exclusive of flood). The Insurance Information Institute will be making their estimates available to the media sometime over the weekend or early next week.
Perhaps we need to have a contest here for everyone to guess the total number of claims. |

Basically, I think this is going to be a 3 week storm for most adjusters (exclusive of flood) and the clean-up crews will take longer. I will be in the middle of the thick in far northeastern North Carolina by this evening and if I have internet access will try and post an on the ground update tonight or tomorrow for NE NC and Norfolk areas.
Everyone traveling into the area, be careful and drive safely. Reports on many roads being out down there from flooding so be aware of alternate routes into many of the Isabel damaged areas. |

Keep in mind fellows that between, Outer Banks, Richmond, Norfolk, Baltimore, Washington, you're looking at over 15 million people, there was only 4.5 million people total in the Miami/Homestead area, smaller stome, more people, more claims! I agree with the 3/4 of a mill claims, including those little 500.00 food loss claims for power outage.
Look at population, between the two, this one's got it beat!

Three weeks may be low for the storm. I am in the office today because of Isabel. One of our carrier accounts got hit in about 6 states reported this morning they had already processed 6,000 losses as of this morning. Since they have over 500 adjusters company wide I guess they will handle the losses internally but 6,000 claims in 36 hours after land fall and even before all of the power is restored would indicate to me it will be more than three weeks to work most of Isabel created losses. |

Let me see, what kinds of claims...Well naturally there will be wind claims and of course flood claims. You'll get trees on houses and flying debris coming through windows, fires sparked by downed power lines. Depending on policies and deductibles you can have people making claims for refrigerated food lost due to power loss and additional living expenses incurred during mandatory evacuations. There are also business interruption claims and auto claims from flooding and wind blown debris. Pretty much every kind of natural disaster type claim with the exception of freezing and earth quake. |

I was talking to some adjusters here and the company they were going to work for told them they didnt need them. Do to the low amount of claims filed. |

Talked with one TX adjuster now in NC and he was told 90% of claims should be worked out in 21 days. He got a few claims after lunch today. |
