I have worked a few storms but Izzy is my first hurricane. I have been in North Carolina and signed up with a vendor since Friday 9/19/03.
Today is Wednesday 9/24/03 and I still have not been assigned any claims to work. The vendor assures me the claims are coming, to hold on a few more days. Should I be concerned or is this normal in a hurricane situation?

Also I would like to hear from other adjusters working Isabel that are already working claims.

I have been waiting also. I was called on Friday and asked to be in NC Monday by 9am. Sure no prob. - last min. things taken care of.
Saturday -just about to leave. I called - No, wait.. I was told, We were going to call you. Claims not coming in as expected. Give it 2 more days. Again, I called and was told -the same thing. Slow, but by the end of the week it will pick up. We will call You.
I thought of just making the trip just to see if I could get some work!
I am not sure if this is normal.
Wait a little longer, I am.
Good Luck!

I am aware of a "group" of cat adjusters who waited around in Pensacola a few years ago during Hurricane Opal who waited, and waited and waited. They were told every day, just give it a few more days and the claims will materialize. Finally after 10 days of waiting (and also losing the opportunity to find work with other vendors) most went home mad and with their wallets much lighter. Of course the vendor offered them nothing for their travel and room expenses, and when all was said and done, there was enough work for the 3 adjusters who stayed.

As far as wind claims, I still predict this will be a lighter than normal storm event with "many" disappointed cat adjusters. The flood boys will do great and have a good year!

I think Ghostbuster said it best when he suggested you are getting hosed.

Since I am new to the CAT scene as an independent, is there anyone out there who has had any prior dealings with either (1) B D Powers & Associates out of Houston or (2) Pete Marcos, Inc in the Newport News, VA area?

Would appreciate any quick feedback!

Also, any info on available rooms in Newport News.

Adjusters can now find rooms in Norfolk starting at around $300.00 per week. Higher rates apply for daily rental. Some motels aren't taking reservations but handling rentals based on walk-in first come first served basis.
Watch out for a few motels which are charging .50 per local call. I am aware of several motels on Military Highway in Norfolk with rooms available.

In regards to Powers I have never worked for her however I understand a very good company to work with and I know she is a nice person and concerned about the adjuster.

I would go with them based upon what I have heard.

This is just my thoughts on meeting her and what I hear.

Who are the vendors that are still requiring adjusters to stand by? Most NC vendors have their adjusters out on claims or on he roar to claims.

In answer to your question concerning Markos. They require only the highest level of quality in their files and service some of the premier companies. All my dealings with Pete Markos Associates and more specifically, Bill Burke have been positive.

Got hosed, 17 in Md. on east side of the bay, nearest motel 60 miles no cell ph. service, very few phones and no place to eat. Waited three days for assignment. I got most of my contacting done through the Vol. fire dept.
also the Crapo Post Office (real name). Marsh land is not the best place to get a lot of work done. But the people are Great. A vacation and camping trip yes, a lot of money, dont even think about it. I had no motel bills, eat courtesy the Red Cross and slept in my Vehicle or on the floor in the Fire House. You gotta bloom where you're planted.

A hearty congratulations, Newt! You are now hereby and officially initiated into the honored ranks of 'Thems That's Been There'. Also, being elevated to a loftier position in Life, you can now in all good conscience, proclaim you have honored your sons request. We welcome you!

At Andrew, I developed a taste for MRE's...I really like them.

MRE's are no match for the fish the watermen cooked up, but thanks for the reminder. MRE's were my diet for extended stays in the field while in service.
They are good, and after a while you have trouble eating regular cooking.
I started with K rations, then on to "C" rations, now the MRE's are like gourmet food.
I was a few bricks shy of an outhouse. I "will' be ready for the next one, I have the camping gear with all the comforts. I have all that stuff in a lock box ready to go, even a portable stove. From now on I will expect the unexpected. MRE's will top my list.
I am going to look into a cab over camper, motor homes and travel trailers would have been out of the question.

I have a saying that the two happiest days an adjuster can have, are the day he/she first arrives at a storm and the day he/she leaves.

Today is a happy day for me as I leave Tidewater, as this was the easiest clean-up I have ever done, and many many Thanks to all the wonderful adjusters at Carolina Claims Service who didn't mess up and left very very few clean up files. It is always a pleasure to be surrounded by a group of adjusters with no weak links in the chain and all of whom are professionals.

You simply can not and could not find a better more talented group of adjusters and kind wonderful people assembled under any other vendor tent than Carolina Claims Service and Dominic had here in Norfolk!

And most of all, Thanks of the highest magnitude to Dominic Ciserano, Scott Clayton, and David String and all the many fine folks at Carolina Claims Service for allowing me the opportunity to work with all of you!

You're the BEST and it is nice to know Carolina Claims Service paychecks come in on time and paid to the penny. You're AAA+++ in my book, and yes, that is intended as a personal endorsement!

Dominic ran the best storm site and operation I have ever been privileged to work with and I look forward to many wonderful assignments with you in the days ahead! And Scott Clayton is the best marketing guru I have ever been privileged to meet and did a wonderful job here in pulling in carriers and claims. Thanks Scott!

Muchas Gracias!

Jim Flynt AIC, CIC, AAI, AIS

(Ok now Clayton, are you satisfied?)

This will be my last post under the screen name Ted Pasan, but stick around, I'll be back!
